I was planning to go this October but I doubt the quarantines will be lifted by then at this rate.

Thinking of Thailand for my next trip, later this year or next.. How easy is it to use translate? Do people speak English there at all?

I think i'll be planning a trip there this December. Do you think it might be better there in December? It's so hard to tell.

Reading material https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/t...-19/index.html

Unfortunately there are Covid clusters generating more infections and deaths. Masks must be worn outside, in cars with 2+ passengers, even tv stations. Bars are shut down and fun is limited. They are vaccinating groups in the cluster areas like Khlong Toei. People are signing up for shots next month.

Wait a little longer, they want you there as bad as you want to go.

Either Thailand or more likely Germany for me. Unless I can find an all inclusive in Thailand... Or at least something that organizes transport between the airport and hotel, think it would be lower on my list than Germany

Regardless... I'm waiting!

Pretty much every hotel in Bangkok can arrange an airport transfer for you. It is an added-cost thing.

Would around December of this be to early? Will things have cleared up by then?

At this point, I can only say "Wait and see." So far, every attempt at reopening has failed, miserably.

The Phuket "Sandbox" experiment cratered when the first airplane load of tourists landed, and then a new cluster spiked. The Phuket local government immediately locked everything down, INCLUDING the newly-arrived tourists who thought they'd be allowed to be out and about, not under house arrest in their "hotels".

I am not holding my breath. My usual hotel continues to hold a deposit, advance payment for a two-week stay. The stay was scheduled for late August last year. I sent it very early in 2020, before the party started. (I am very glad that I am on very good terms with that hotel. I think some other places would not be nearly as generous on a non-refundable reservation.)

As Sidewinder, maybe. I was planing a trip in December, but with too many unknowns I ended up opting for a trip to Germany instead. No way of knowing if Thailand will be OK 3 months from now, and 1-2 weeks isn't enough headway to schedule a trip for me

Now that the EU has recommended to its members that it will reimpose travel curbs on U.S. for non-essential travel including tourism, you might want to keep a close watch on what Germany decides to do.

Rules have changed Nov 1, 2021. A few hoops to jump thru and a 1 day quarantine in BKK. I leave Dec 17th for 3-4 months. Will update here upon arrival.
