Default Rooster Cogburn rides again!

Not a bad flick. I liked the original better but then again, maybe I'm just getting old!

That is what I was thinking also. There can be only one Duke!

Just finished watching the original on TCM--they are having a Duke Marathon today.

So did the Coen brothers due the franchise proud?

When I first heard about a remake of True Grit I thought it was blasphemy, even if the Cohen brothers (whom I greatly admire) were doing it. But everything I've heard and read about it has been positive, so I guess I'll give it a chance.

I hope they do a good job with it as I like both the book and the original. I thought the original stuck pretty closely to the book, except for the end.
They have some big shoes to fill.
The original was a pretty hard-hitting movie when it came out in 1968.

I'm of the same mind. Have heard/read enough good things to give a shot. The Cohen brothers have yet to fail me.

Was absolutely horrified this movie was being re-done. What the hell? Why mess with a classic?

Went to see it last night anyway. It was really a pretty good movie, well worth seeing. Naw, it wasn't the Duke...but it wasn't bad at all!

Bridges was good but it was no Oscar performance as was the Duke's.

But I thought Hailee Steinfeld > Kim Darby, and Matt Damon > Glen Campbell. (Actually, I thought Hailee Steinfeld steals the show).

The cinematography was great, although obviously it wasn't Arkansas and Oklahoma as written in the novel. (But then again, neither was the 1969 film, either). I think the Coen Brothers filmed it in West Texas and New Mexico, but I'm not sure.

I too was almost a little pissed when I found out it was being re-done. Guess I'll have to go see it now. I do love the Cohen Brothers....

Never cared for the Cohen brothers but rather like the Coen guys. Sorry, I couldn't resist!!!

There'll never be another Duke but Bridges is good.

I do agree with that.

For those of you who are a little long in the tooth, I think you'll agree Lloyd's sons are doing OK.

Just came back from seeing the new one. The characters and names are the same but other than that, it's an entirely different movie. I liked it better and that's not to downgrade The Duke. I've never read the book but suppose this is closer to the book than the original.
