Because I’m not an idiot. How about using some common sense. Threatening your neighbor with a 25% tax on all your business is likened to extortion.
Are you saying that Trump is so charismatic that he can threaten to tax Canadians and Americans billions of dollars on their exports and imports then convince them that it’s a friendly act?
That’s just delusional.

Self assessments can be a useful tool, but so can people that don't do them

Best not to suggest you run a poll on that.

Bingo! Now you're on to something. You still think of a tariff as a discreate tax, while ignoring all of the offsets to other taxes. That's fine, many make the same mistake, i.e. only looking at the tariff, not the opportunities they create to jettison other taxes and produce a net reduction to the US taxpayer. So the question becomes: Where do your loyalties lay? In the US or other countries?
But the bigger picture is something altogether different. Tariffs have been a thing, world wide, for a very long time. Ever hear of "dumping"? That's where a country decides to flood a market with subsidized goods to crater a specific industry to later jack prices for their ultimate gain and industry dominance. Another tariff example.
And then there's the cudgel: That's where you do this, we do that. Basically, the bigger picture scenario. Trying to sell things to us built from slave labor, as an example. Should we accept that? What about flooding our country with interlopers and contraband, while try to sell us products? So the question becomes: Where do your loyalties lay? In the US or other countries?

And often the same people that scream tariffs will cause inflation totally ignore the inflationary costs of regulations with often the only benefit being someone in the government gets a job.

... Hmmmm... So, IF we follow yer-own logic, Trump is now
doing extortion to Trudeau and Canada, yes?
So, then Trudeau - who must be fraught with anger and
offence - heads straight to Mar-a-Lago to confront
another nation's next leader?
From the photos they're showing - Trudeau surely seems
to be having a good time. ... ...
So, SEE? - It was a friendly act. ...

This is Trump’s modus operandi. His tariff threats are used as a jumping off point for negotiations over the current thing. They almost never happen but do bring the other side to the table, which is exactly what they’re intended to do.

Let's rewind and review the tape...
Trump threatens 25% tariffs on Canada if'n they don't clean up the border of illegals and contraband. Truedope does the math, i.e. ~80% of their exports ship to the USA. Within 48 hours, he is knocking at the door to Mar-a-Lago with hat in hand.
Knock-knock
Who's there?
Truedope
Truedope who?
Truedope we be closing up the border bruddah.

Hope Mr. Trump's ideas for the 2nd term turn out better than the first time around.
Last time around he was telling everyone Mexico would pay for a border wall....which Mexico never did. Then Trump saw the chance to raise money and donations to pay for it. Unfortunately his chief strategist is facing criminal charges for taking that money.
There is a very good chance tariffs like these would stagnate the economy. Currently the markets just made a
47th all time high. But we don't want to give the Biden administration too much credit for that.

The market remains optimistic so far. Time will tell. But tariffs have been around for a very long time. I probably should have mentioned that before. My bad.
Markets are foreword looking. In other words, Slo-Joe and Da-Ho are in the rearview mirror. Yesterday's news. Gone-ski.
They can pack up their circus tent now...

IMMIGRATION U-TURN: Canada No Longer Welcomes Mass Migration, Launches Global Online Ad Campaign Cautioning Asylum-Seekers That ‘Making a Claim Is Hard’
For Years, the Liberal Canadian Government headed by Globalist Poster-boy Justin Trudeau has made a point to accept as many ‘refugees’ as possible, even though many of those arrivals were nothing but economic mass migrants.
Now, with an economic stagnant country, unpopular and trailing the opposition in the polls, abandoned by allies and under siege in his own party, Trudeau has decided to have his administration attempt a U-turn of sorts when it comes to immigration.
Abandoning its stance as one of the world’s most welcoming countries to refugees and immigrants, Canada is launching a global online ad campaign cautioning asylum-seekers that ‘making a claim is hard’.
Reuters reported:
“The $178,662 in advertisements will run through March in 11 languages, including Spanish, Urdu, Ukrainian, Hindi and Tamil, the immigration department told Reuters. They are part of a broader shift in tone by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s unpopular government on immigration and an effort to clamp down on refugee claims.”...
...“Search queries such as ‘how to claim asylum in Canada’ and ‘refugee Canada’ will prompt sponsored content titled ‘Canada’s asylum system – Asylum Facts’, the ministry said.
‘Claiming asylum in Canada is not easy. There are strict guidelines to qualify. Find out what you need to know before you make a life-changing decision’, one ad reads.”...

Might not need that 25% tariff after all...
