The speaker gets executive power when he/she is sworn in as President. Until then he/she is 1 of 535 members of the legislative branch who has some control over the proceedings of one of the two chambers of a bicameral legislature. Saying she has as much authority as the President is like saying the Chief Justice of SCOTUS does. I'm surprised I have to explain that to a political genius.
The Dems lost the White House, As Obama so eloquently put it...deal with it.

The reason they couldn't get this done in the first two years is because there are too many Republicans being two faced about it just like they were when they voted 65 times to repeal ACH then when they had the opportunity the last two years they they didn't do it.
Same with this fence funding. They talk a big game but when the whip goes to count the votes they tell him they can't support it because they are in a purple district and could lose their seat. Knowing they don't have the votes they don't bring it to the floor because it's a political loss. If they know, like the ACH repeal, that it has no chance of getting through the rest of the legislative process they vote for it so they can say they did when the next election comes up, a political win.

This is the reason we need term limits. Politicians should be more concerned with what they were sent to DC for rather than bullshitting their way into staying there for a lifetime. I think you'd see a whole different attitude if they knew they weren't making a career of it.

Trump did get a lot done that he promised. Tax cuts, a more robust economy resulting in more jobs and record low unemployment across damn near any demographic you can think of, energy independence and he's rolled back a lot of regulations(may be good or bad) Isis all but eliminated(this one I didn't think possible). N Korea willing to talk...the list goes on. For better or worse he's followed through on more campaign promises than any president since Reagan. All this he's done with 90 percent negative reporting by the media.

The thing that scares me about Trump is what I've said since he announced he was running. Nothing is off the table for him when it comes to negotiating. Tebow help us if we have another mass shooting or a school shooting before they get a deal done on border security. Trump has said before that we needed comprehensive gun control. He wants to "take the guns early" and then worry about due process. If a situation arises where public sentiment is temporarily in favor, as it usually is in the aftermath of such a tragic event, I fear that Trump will take that opportunity to offer up some pretty aggressive compromises.

I WANT THE WALL BUILT AND BUILT NOW!! TOO MUCH VIOLENCE BY THESE IMMIGRANT INVADERS!
Just last week a man in Florida mass shot a bank and killed 5 people. Wait the suspect is white.
Also this past weekend some Anglo white guy shot and killed 5 people in Louisiana... hmm..?
3 Anglo white American domestic terrorist men were arrested and charged with attempting to bomb a Muslim mosque. This also happened last week.
Yesterday 2 white Anglo drug dealers shot 4 HPD cops during a raid at the suspect home.
But but but but but BUILD THE WALL!!

Wait you can't talk about that, stick with the narrative.

Boardman is right trump did a bunch spent hella cash giving taxes back to the rich. Fell in love with the north Korea guy, listened to Putin when he said "it wasn't me", won in Syria don't worry about the bombing. He came up with raking the forest too.

Honestly I would not give him more then 1.5 for that wall. Probably not even that. I like him hold up fighting for that waste of time. Can't fuck up as much shit.

So the answer is to let everyone in, no screening, nothing? Just come across the border where ever you want? Go take up homestead where ever even if that means sleeping under a bridge or in the woods by the freeway? Is that humane?

Does everyone not lock their doors at night? Do you allow just anyone to come into your home uninvited without question and let them help themselves to your shit? We tell immigrants "come on in but leave my shit alone. Go take it from someone else"???

Will controlling immigration stop all immigrant crime? No.

Will a wall stop all the drugs that are coming in from the southern border? It will slow it down significantly but the reality is the drugs WILL come from somewhere else as long as there is a demand. Making them more expensive to get and less available, it could be argued, might even increase crime domestically. That's not a reason to just throw your hands up and stop trying. We've fought this war on drugs a long time. Educating and influencing the demand side is more effective than fighting the supply side.

Part of the problem is we have a generation of, now young adults, who were told that 8% -10% unemployment is the new norm. Those jobs aren't coming back so get used to it. Many of them watched their parents walk away from mortgages that were underwater and they watched the banks and big businesses that were too big to fail get bailed out but they aren't getting bailed out. They have no concept that government isn't a endless supply of money. You see that in the far left socialist "pie in the sky" ideals of free shit for all. When asked who is going to pay for it they have no real answer. Some want to confiscate other people's shit. The problem is they eventually run out of shit and lose the will to produce more. Other's just don't know where it comes from to begin with. It's like they don't realize it has to be paid for. To some, we are so far in debt we'll never get out of it so their answer seems to be just keep piling on the debt, it doesn't matter. Each succeeding economic crisis becomes more and more painful. Keynesian economics only work for short periods of time.

In the schools we've told young people that they must go to college in order to be successful. The reality is that not every kid is college material. Instead of telling them that's OK and there are other routes they can take to be successful, counselors don't even offer those options anymore. Trade schools used to not have to advertise because the kids that belonged there were pushed there. Now the kids feel like they don't matter and have no options. Going to a trade school is insulting, it's failure. Their lives are diminished and their hope is lost. Pile that kind of despair onto an already stressed home life where a single mother is working her ass off to put some food on the table, or worse, she's not and it's no wonder kids turn to drugs and a life of crime. Hell, some of them do it to help put food on the table. That's a fucked up choice they have to make. Meanwhile there is a shortage of skilled labor like welders, electricians, plumbers, and mechanics.

Piling on to that problem is the trend of emasculating adolescent and younger boys. One article just published suggested that this emasculation actually leads to homophobia and misogyny because a young man has built in mechanisms, as we all do, to fight what our bodies and minds tell us is harmful. This emasculation that persists causes them to fight back by developing negative attitudes and hostile feelings towards what they know deep down inside is harmful. Sorry, that's a tangent...kind of.

Everyone arguing against the wall screams that we are being inhumane, they point to the suffering of the people who make the trip, kids are taken from their parents and abused along the way. They fall ill and die with no one to help them. Where does that problem start though? Does it start with us or with them? If it were not so easy to get in would they make the trip in the first place? It's not that we won't let them in. We are responsible because we've encouraged it by making it so easy to get in illegally. We need immigrants, we need immigrants that will come here and work and contribute as productive members of society and be producers and consumers and tax payers. But why do we encourage them and make it so easy for them to get in, if they can just make it here, but then we effectively tell so many of our own young people there is no hope and no future. Is it humane to give such hope to people that we know will suffer abuse and die to take advantage of it? Is it humane to treat our own young people like they don't matter but illegal immigrants do? We need to fix our own problems before we can fix everyone else's.

No, a wall won't stop all drugs and all illegal immigration. It's one piece of the deterrent though. Democrats argue that technology is a better answer. By this argument they agree that border security is necessary. They've argued that we need a physical barrier in the past and they've even voted for it but now, all of a sudden, they are against it. They won't listen to the land owners, the ranchers on the border who tell them it's a problem and the border patrol agents who tell them that they can't be everywhere all the time. They dismiss the DHSs statistics and reports. It's simple. We need a barrier for the same reason we lock our houses at night AND have alarm systems. Locks keep honest people honest, better locks and stronger deterrents move the guy who isn't honest down the road to an easier target. Do you leave your house wide open and let everyone come in or do you lock your doors, hoping that it will slow someone down while you call 911, or grab your gun, when someone attempts to get in? A wall is not the end all be all. It's one part of security, one layer, it slows the flow of people intent on getting in and it slows the ones actually getting in so that agents can get there.

Without that barrier they can just walk right in. Drones can't be everywhere, Electronic fences won't slow them down. Surveillance cameras can only track them so far. We need to make the easy target the legal points of entry, that way we can be selective about who we let in and we need to streamline that process. Once the flow is stopped we need to go ahead and give some kind of amnesty to those who are already here. They need to pay their fair share too. Nothing good comes from making them continue to hide in the shadows. But you've got to control the border first. You can't even hint at amnesty with a wide open border because you increase the flow. We've been down that road before.

I guess the alternative to a physical barrier is to have surveillance cameras set up along the border along with electronic fences. Someone would monitor those for breeches then dispatch a drone to track the party until agents can get there. How do you defeat that? Split off into more groups than there are drones tracking you. They send one drone you split into two groups. They send two drones you split into three. That's what they are doing now. Some of the people know they are going to be apprehended. They take their chances and they go back with the hope that next time they'll be the one(s) getting through. And how much does all that technology cost? 5 billion? 10? Then there is maintenance and upkeep and upgrades. The cost never ends. A physical barrier needs maintenance as well, sure, but since it's not technological or mechanical that cost would be minimal comparatively.

If a beggar came to your door and asked for help would you automatically turn him away? I used to get people walking into my place of business(not in the best area of town) all the time looking for handouts. I don't give handouts but if I have a little something that they can do I'll let them earn a few bucks. I don't taking advantage of them and I'll pay them cash out of my pocket mayber 20 bucks for sweeping the floor for an hour or cleaning windows. I've got one guy who came in once and was good that with. Turned out he's a sign painter and now he repaints my signs once a year for good money. He's in his 60's. When he needs beer money or bus fare he knows where to come too and doesn't mind doing some menial chores to earn it. I've even gotten to where I'll give him an advance in the afternoon and tell him to show up the next day, he hasn't failed to show yet. Know what? He's Hispanic and he thinks we need a wall too.

^ Bruh...Geez...WTF man cut that shit out. You think you're some NY Times best selling author?

50 pages doesnt mean you know what you're talking about. Keep it succinct ok.

I'm not for open borders but I'm not for a wall. Let's put aside that this land belongs to Native Americans and Mexicans and think through it. Amnesty should be granted to every immigrant here. The reason it should be granted is because those people earned a right to be here. 99% of them work harder than us and clawed their way to get here. I dam sho ain't picking cotton, fruits, and mowing lawns. We created a pathway for 50 yrs so like Ronald Reagan did grant them amnesty but no wall. Trump is a grandstanding race baiter. He needs to start with deporting his mail order bride first.

Unfortunately it's a complicated issue. I'll try to type in small words so you can understand next time. I have to be thorough and build context otherwise idiots will take my comments out of context and twist my words. It's why I don't do Twitter. If it hurts your brain too much just don't read it.

Yeah, Reagan granted amnesty on the promise of border security. He got fucked.
Kind of like Trump reopened the Gov't on the promise of negotiating border security. We'll see how that first meeting goes shortly.

As I said, You can't grant amnesty or even talk about it before you control the border. See my comment above regarding Reagan getting fucked.

^ learn to get your point across quickly it's 2019 not 1919. Being excessively wordy typically means you dont know what you're talking about and you're trying to convince yourself. Its unacceptable Boardman. Again higrade your language, fix your sentence structures, and get to the point.

We're not giving Trump a dam thing. That 2 bit fucker doesnt care about the country he's looking to pander to his rabid base. His family has been rooted in the US for 150...count em 150 yrs and not a single member has served in the US military. Not one...and that's precisely why he wont get shit. Like Mitt Romney said he's a fraud and a phoney just like his gotdam Trump university. All Mexico has to do is ask him to build a Mega casino in the heart of Cancun and this fuck boy would totally abandon his wall idea. His supporters are being played like a fiddle. harmonica maybe. ;-)
