Default Building a website on wordpress...?

I don't have powder room access so I thought I'd ask here.

I am looking to build a new site using WordPress. Does anyone know of any GOOD WordPress tutorials. I need a WordPress for dummies version.. lol! I am a very fast learner when it comes to everything else but not when it comes to web design. I have no interest in using the cookie cutter template sites. Please help if you can!

I've been wanting to design a new website as well, but I don't know how I would be able to keep my domain if I went through a different site than I use now?...

Val, In your case you'd have to hit the contact button on escortsite.com and tell them you want to transfer your domain elsewhere. They will let you know then if they'll let you transfer it or not. Some places won't allow you to do this. Please let me know what they say.

Hi Valerie,

If you registered the name yourself than it should not be any problem transferring to any host you want.

If it is one of those cookie cutter sites than I would guess there would be much less chance of a transfer.

I recommend a person ALWAYS registers their own domain name. The cost is negligible and you will own it forever as long as you pay the annual fee.

Only one person in the world can have the name they all go through an international clearing house no matter who you register with.

If you like you can check for FREE on my site to see if the name you want is available.

You would not be under any obligation whatsoever to register that name with me.

The search is always 100% FREE.

If a .com version is not available maybe a .net will be. A new .co extension is now available as well.

The downside of that though is that it is quite a bit more expensive, and you can’t keep your information private like you can with a .com, or a .net.

Best of luck with it working out the way you want.

PS:

I offer WordPress hosting, as one of the options, on my site starting at $3.99 a month. Many bells and whistles.

Well I use escort-site now, but I paid to have the domain name to be mine....so being that I paid for it, I would hope I would be able to tranfer it over?

My thoughts exactly.

Not only should they register their domain in their own name. They should enable whois privacy so their personal information isn't shared if any trouble was to come up. There are also companies that can register these names for you .. but it can cost up to $30 per domain name.

True.

Yes but a .com is easier to remember. However if the name is not avail the best option is a .net. A .org or a .us is hard to remember and .orgs are really for non profit organizations.

Yes you can keep your information private. Either enable whois or have a company register the name for you. I wouldn't recommend registering a domain name with a friend or just some webmaster because if there is a falling out.. that person can own your name.

I consider companies that charge $30 for this a rip off. when a person registers a domain with me they can add privacy for $1.95

True.

Some other choices are .info, .biz. .me, etc., but as you said .com or .net are the best.

I offer .com for $8.49, and .net for $7.49

Add on privacy for $1.95 more.

My dear, Companies like this aren't rip offs when they have been around for years and trustworthy. The point of registering with companies like this is so that one is totally secure and know that their name is good hands. Maybe this is how your company functions.. but we do not know that for sure. Sure they can always enable whois privacy with whoever their registering their domain name with (For example: Godaddy, Servage.. etc) but does that give them total protection? No. If something were to go wrong legally.. the company is required by law to give the authorities one's personal information.

So in other words, Whois privacy does not protect you from the authorities. It is best to pay a trustworthy company to register it for you. If you let a friend register your domain name for you .. it could back fire. You can't trust just anyone with that stuff.

Now I am dying to read some wordpress tutorials

Valerie I think the key here may be did you register the name actually yourself or did you pay them to do it.

We are in a grey area here.

Your best option now is to try and see what they say. If they are listed as the owners they may release it to you for a fee, but that fee may be less than fair.

Yes I have. Good read but it's not really a wordpress for dummies tutorial though. Which is what I want. Guess I will hit up Barnes&Nobles and grab the book http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CFUQ8wIwAA#

I have never used wordpress so I could not tell you. The programs I have used in the past are pretty difficult for a first timer, but if you're not actually starting from scratch by designing a new template, it should not be that hard to learn. I mean if you are just filling in the info. rather than actually doing your own tables, etc. the program you use should come with a tutorial.

The way I did mine was to actually purchase some templates, and do some of my own as well...that is why the menu moves from page to page, because I could not edit that part on the pre-paid templates.

With Jordan's I just did all the pages the same from one template design and it was much easier to work with.

Naomi I know nothing about the site below other than they have great prices. Less than Amazon.
WordPress for dummies is $11.05. I have not used them for anything yet so have no idea how good there service may but they do seem to say quick shipping. I believe both Barnes and Nobel and Amazon charge a bit over $20 for the same book.
