This is the kind of question that makes me abruptly start asking about your hobbies at the dinner table. Hint hint.

(Also to Ansley)

If the gent brings it up, why? I'm sure you could hold your own and it makes for an interesting conversation. There is one lady who has political views that are vastly different than mine (imagine if you can to the right of RK or JB) but that has never stopped us from debating issues (can lead to great make-up sex lol).

Emily Post told me not to? Really, she has a point -- for many people, political discussions too easily become heated, feelings get hurt, and in my experience little is ever resolved by them. I'm not going to risk what was a pleasant evening turning into a fiasco because I expressed my true feelings about, say, the death penalty.

Once bitten, twice shy.

Also, despite "enjoys politics" being like bullet point number three on the "What Makes a HDH" qualification list, I am just not that into it. It's one reason I was initially hesitant to join in on the discussions on the old board. Thankfully I discovered y'all actually do talk about other stuff from time to time. You know, safe topics -- like "is marriage obsolete?"

Hey PJ, is there a list for that?

Actually, I generally prefer discussions about politics and religion...the two topics one is supposed to avoid. Some of the discussions bore me since there is no really correct answer to the issue at hand, while others are quite stimulating.

Now, as a general rule, I think men and women are different in this respect. I think men, again, as a rule, like and thrive on the debate, while women, as a rule, avoid that type of conflict. Now, I've use the phrase "as a rule" on purpose. There are exceptions to the rule, and I am sure there are ladies that can hold their own, and, indeed, enjoy such a debate.

I've found, no matter what end of the spectrum one is on, if both sides will shut up enough to listen, that the goals of both ends are not that far apart. It is the methodology for achieving that goal that differs.

Most of the time I do enjoy political conversations. There has only been a couple of times that I didn't want to participate. Once was just a couple of weeks ago when the man that I saw had something to do with tracking the soldiers that have been killed in wars. He pointed to the book Black Hawk Down and a couple of others in my bookcase. The following week I closed the doors on my bookcase and all was forgotten. Another time was a guy that was down here doing work with the steel unions and was an over the top Obama supporter. I really didn't appreciate him trying to shove his views down my throat.
