Default Your thoughts on the Saliva HIV testing kit

I've been thinking about this alot. For everyones protection, do you think it would be wise for providers to carry the HIV saliva testing kit and require all clients to take the test prior to the appointment?

I know the clients "require" us to do BBBJ. I don't want this to get into a percentage debate about the risks of BBBJ. But there are risks, no doubt. So do you think it would be feasible for providers to come over 30 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment (OFF THE CLOCK) and have the client take the saliva test? Is this something providers would be willing to do, IF the cost of those tests were cheaper?? Currently $30 per test online

What if the cost of the test was $3 or $5?? Would we all be carrying the test aroound (along with additional protection) prior to appointment?

Do you think this would make the entire community safer? I mean, we all want to be safe.

Maybe someday clinics would give those kits out to providers for free. A pipe dream I know. But I've been wondering about this and would like to know what you think.....

Smart yes, fesible business wise probably not.it would be time consuming I'm sure. Then some providers wouldn't want to take a test on the reverse. I know if I was to take a saliva test, why spare expense and time for he to take one too. And I'm sure some providers probably wouldn't be overly entertaining or social for those 30 minutes or so she's waiting for the results.

First of all, it will never be a cost to the provider. The cost will pass through.

Second, that's only targeting one of a number of health issues. By far, if I remember correctly, statistics shows that HIV/AIDS is highest among intravenous drug users (abusers?), and second in the gay population. And, it doesn't even touch the latency issue. I'm not talking a percentage debate about the risks of BBBJ, I'm talking about which population you actually target.

Besides, what you suggest is impractical since it can't be done in 30 minutes:

There is only one HIV home collection kit that is FDA approved. This is the Home Access Kit. You can buy this over the counter, although maybe not in your state and probably not in all drug stores. You can also order it over the phone (1 800 HIV TEST) or on the web site at http://www.homeaccess.com. This test is not a true home test in the sense that you still have to send your blood sample to Home Access and then call them for the result. Expect to pay about 40 to 50 dollars for this service. I would avoid other home collection kits since these are not regulated and may not be as accurate.

I've never taken the saliva test. I thought you had the results in 20 minutes.

I've talked to other providers who have taken the test, all said the results took 20 minutes. It is also stated here:

Yup I'd take the test especially if he was willing to take one as well.

So this one tests for HIV, OK. What would be the testing procedures for your much more common STD's and HPV?

Next question, are you ladies willing to take this test a few times per day with each client you require to be tested. I would be open-minded enough to consider this but only if the lady does it at the same time and in front of each other; no secrets, no surprises after-all.

I'm imagining how a conversation would go during that 20 minute wait time!

True, or the ladies result for that matter! What if the client required the lady to clear testing before BCD activities? There are concerns on both sides of this fence.

Theoretically this is a good idea but in practice I have concerns. I'm curious about false positives, test accuracy, how many ways someone could fuck up/rig the test, etc.

I am much more curious about the everyday STD's testing. In the real world your chances of exposure to HIV/AIDS are considerably less than to STD's

1. I would wory that this would put more pressure on providers to provide more BB activities.

2. Yes I would take it, I would prefer she did too.

3. As far as the 20 min goes you could sit on the couch and make-out like teenagers, sounds like fun.

I'd have absolutely no problem taking one.
