Default Windows 8 Sucks

Well I just bought a new PC with Windows 8. I have been told to buy a Mac by all of my computer savy friends as well as a few that are just basic users. Granted they are more expensive but you get what you pay for. Well anyway I have procrastinated simply because I did not want to take the time to learn the different operations of the Macintosh OS.

Windows 8 is totally different from any earlier version. Nothing works like the old operating systems and many of the older programs won't work either. My older version of Office won't work, and Microsoft now wants 100 bucks a year for office. I found a free word processor program that works but still do not know if my old Word documents will open with this new program. I have had to use search to find simple things like "Control Panel" and "Documents." I am getting better with this system but think it is horseshit and I just absolutely hate it.

Now I have to totally learn how to use a computer again, basically the reason I haven't bought a Mac has become reality with a PC. Never again will I buy another PC. If anybody is considering purchasing a new computer take note of this. You are gonna be lost for several days and most of your old programs are not going to work. Congratulations Apple, you just became number 1 in computer sales.

Thanks for posting..

I am dreading the day I have to upgrade. I currently use Windows XP; which is a proven reliable workhorse for the types of business applications I use - very stable platform. But it is getting to be an old system and Windows is no longer issuing service pack updates/fixes......

Good luck w/ your transition to W-8.

Sorry to hear about your woes, but thanks for the heads-up.

. . . You have just learned the high price of education!

XP was great, it has continually gone down since. I hate this new system, gonna just use this as a place to keep songs and work with music in my jam room. Time to buy a Mac. There wont be much transition to Windows 8. Just gonna use this for something else and spend my time learning a new computer with an Apple product.

I am very computer literate. I am not having a hard time with Windows 8 I just don't like it. I have spent many hours on a Mac just haven't learned all of the cross applications. Wanna buy this laptop with Windows 8? You can have it at half price? It's 3 days old.

I feel your pain. I was having printer problems and Staples told me Windows XP would no longer be supported in Jan 2014 and a cost of $200 to upgrade

So one of local discount stores had a Dell with 23" monitor for $350, so my old computer was 20 years old, I figured my cost was $150.

Dell has a deal for $350 one time charge, they will give 24/7 service for life, including security and for $50 bucks I got all of the office suites

now if you can tolerate the a is for apple but b for boy dealing with the Indians in India it is not a bad deal

back to the printer problems, I bought an Epson. The first month it worked fine then it stopped scanning then it stopped altogether. I called 4 times and got hung up on 4 times without any return calls. Now after two months and numerous emails they wanted to reinstall the software for the 5th time.

the most rude people I have ever dealt with, there is a problem in
the USB port and they tell me to keep reinstalling

time to call the Better Business Bureau

You're using a 20 year old PC? Seriously? Does it have a x486 processor?

I actually like Windows 7 quite a bit and of course, love XP.

Like many others, I'm not a fan of Windows 8 at all. To me, Windows 8 was designed to be used on a touch screen tablet (thus the weird new Start Menu) so if you have to use it on a desktop or laptop, it really loses much of its functionality.

I would take you up on that, but would need to know how much porn you have watched in the last 3 days first.
