corn, like straight up Mexican street style - La Tapatia on East 14th, just south of I-235. Grocery store.
if your looking for straight from the farm, there are plenty of farmers markets during the week that can help yah out.
beer - for someone new, best bet would be Iowa Taproom in East Village neighborhood.

There are various breweries in metro area, each has their own niche and all.
