Anthony Bourdain disagrees about Texas.

13) Oklahoma Joe's Barbecue (Kansas City, Kansas) People may disagree on who has the best BBQ. Here, the brisket (particularly the burnt ends), pulled pork, and ribs are all of a quality that meet the high standards even of Kansas City natives. It's the best BBQ in Kansas City, which makes it the best BBQ in the world.

Wow, the reporter was NATIONAL. SO WHAT! There is no excuse for a reporter to make up a story with little facts:

JR
OK Grandpa you didn't quite read that right...This was a television interview on KCPT where the reporter sat down with the owner of Joes Kansas City and the that owner MADE THOSE STATEMENTS!

Ok back to the action

Here is the link to the story and it actually was a great story on Kansas City history.

Here is another story from Andrew Zimmerman where he states KC is the best for BBQ

It's hard to admit Joe's has serious competition:
Q39 is giving Joe's a run for its money.

The Q39 folks have a long history that's known to those who pay attention, which dates back way before they opened in 2014.
The main guy at Q39 has more than 3 decades of Hotel Food and Beverage. Including at one of the main hotels here in KC as its executive chef for one of those decades. I believe he started on the competitive circuit 7 or 8 years before the store opened.

Question. Does it bother people in Kansas that Texas has the best BBQ for the 11th. year in a row?
Which BBQs have you tried in KC?

I find it amusing that in reading the Texas list the third or fourth one said to come in Thursday for the "green-chile mac and cheese."... I wonder if that's considered Italian Tex-Mex...??

Q39 is good and so is Jack's Stack. Joe's is tasty, but the service sucks. All in all, I think LC's and Bryant's are some of the best you can have anywhere.

Try Smokin' Guns BBQ in NKC or just down the street Hog Jaw Fritz. Both have great burnt ends, but SG has a bigger menu.

Didn't know it was in "An Officer and a Gentleman". Can't say I've ever seen that one. Thanks for the knowledge.

Side bit after some googling. It was R. Lee Ermey that said it in Full Metal Jacket, and R. Lee Ermey was the advisor to Louis Gossett Jr. on "An Officer and a Gentlemen".

LC's for KC. Comparing different regional styles of bbq is like comparing blues, bluegrass and jazz musicians. Each has their own flavor and standards of comparison.
