Below is the great heavyweight fight IMO. In his first fight after his loss to Ali, Foreman fought a beast in Ron Lyle. The link is below. There are numerous knockdowns of both men which is very rare for a heavyweight fight. Foreman is arm weary and Lyle knocks him down for the last time in the later rounds. Then Foreman just snaps.

Think of this: Foreman's wrist circumference is 12"

You got that right. We'll never see another like him. Shit, that was Ali past his prime too....32 years old. There is an excellent documentary film about the fight called "When We Were Kings"......highly recommend. Ali was mind-fucking Foreman for months prior to the fight.

Boxing is shit now. And, the popularity of the cage fights is something I don't get. Couple of guys grappling around on a dirty mat for 5 minutes at a time.

The fighters during Ali's era were much better and Ali managed to be on top. He took his career a little to long but so what.

There was never a fighter before like George Foreman. They guy was a monster.

Foreman would have done to Mike Tyson just like he did to Joe Frazier. In fact There is no doubt in my mind that alot of those old fighters would have mopped the canvas with Tyson. The closest fighter to Tyson was Joe Frazier. They called Smokin Joe "The Truth" because that what he brought out of you. Frazier would have also knockout Tyson.

I never followed boxing as closely as many guys, but I suspect that you're quite right.

I've heard people say that Ali in his prime would have simply embarrassed Mike Tyson. I'll never forget the "rope-a-dope" win over Foreman, who was quite a monster himself, as well as being quite a few inches taller than Tyson. So I don't doubt it.

In the early 1960s, my parents went to Las Vegas on a vacation. Sonny Liston was training in an open area (perhaps in or near one of the resorts or casinos) and putting on a show for the crowd. Dad said that trainers threw medicine balls at his chest and stomach areas hard enough to put an ordinary man in the hospital. He thought the guy was the meanest, toughest-looking dude he could ever imagine, and apparently thought he was likely to be invincible as a fighter.

I remember well that Dad and one of my uncles thought Liston would knock out Ali within a round or two.

So much for that prediction!

Tyson in his prime was an unbelievable intimidating type of fighter, the guy fought like an attacking pitbull (no pun intended). I think he was one of the youngest champs in history also.

It went downhill for him after the Buster Douglas loss (rape conviction, jail time, 2 Holyfield losses, ear biting) which is what a lot of people remember more of instead of his early dominance in boxing

You are correct about Mike Tyson. He was a very good fighter and the intimidation factor actually worked in his favor. Any good fighter with discipline could been him. He never had the opposing talent to challenge him.

Come on...Holyfield beat him. Holyfield was good but he wasn't great.

Look at all the great names that went down to the sting of bee..

Name me just one great fighter that Tyson took out.

I agree- Ali in his prime would have been too much for Tyson- Ali fought and defeated far greater caliber fighters than Tyson- now Tyson was still a great fighter no doubt but he wasn't in Ali's class- Ali had power, speed, skill and charisma that we will never see again- Ali is the most recognizable athlete the world has ever seen- God Bless him.
