I don't know sketch. I don't think we are having the same discussion. You're talking in legal terms. I'm talking in social terms. You're from a school of thought that I don't subscribe to. Yes you personally would consider me a conspiracy theorist. Of that I'm certain. I don't think I am though.

To answer your closing question, the legislation is whatever you see that it is. Much has changed, but I'm not referring to law. If the question was more specific, I would gladly answer. I can't speak for hundreds of years. I haven't been here that long.

We're from different worlds.

From a legal/constitutional perspective (speaking as a layman), freedom of speech is alive and well and does not apply to this site.

From a social perspective, I have never enjoyed the version of freedom of speech to which you subscribe. I'm sorry to hear it has been changing in your world.

Even in the public context, freedom of speech is a myth, a dangerous illusion used to wield control.

Like when a woman asks a man, "Does this make me look fat? It's ok, just be honest."

You'd be more correct to say an anarchist.
Get in an argument with a Republican, he will call you a communist.
Get in an argument with a Democrat, he will call you a Nazi.

Once she's asked that question, you are toast. There is nothing you can say that is the right answer. And you can't keep silent either. That is the ultimate trap question.

"while it doesn't make you look fat, I do not think it positively accentuates your overall appearance"

Then duck

As pointed out above, speech has consequences. What concerns me most are the consequences that society feels comfortable imposing indirectly. By this I mean if I say something that society is not generally in alignment with, and my employment is well known, my employer feels that they must sanction me to keep society from punishing my employer for my statements. This magnifies the consequences more than would be otherwise justified.

Well, you could suggest an inspection the situation. Remove offending item. Give her the tongue lashing she deserves for trying to put you into such a catch-22. Replace offending item. Reply, "nope doesn't make you look fat at all"

Imagine if all free-speech issues were handled this way

But you're not an indentured servant, right? If you don't like your employer's rules, find another job. If it's too hard to match their salary/benefits, they are essentially paying for your silence -- but you still have a choice.

There are places where you are killed or jailed for speaking out. So, the complaints I am seeing in this thread about "true free speech" seem pretty minor in comparison.

Better than elsewhere, does not necessarily mean right. Better than elsewhere keeps me happy. Not necessarily right keeps me talking about it from time to time.

Gee thanks! Yet, you are still "privately owned", so that means I have no freedom! It's called a "marketing system".

No! You chose to be here! Most everyone else understand that too. What's your call there? Entertain us. We understand give and take in society! What's your fried brain think there?

Sometimes there's those that try not too step on egg shells, so it seems, just to be nice!?! Those are the ones you think might side with you or convert if you will. Cause if I'm wrong there? It would make you look even more pointless too yourself!
