Default La Mer Skincare ... is it really worth it?

Over the years, I've seen a lot of HDH's ask for La Mer products on their wishlists.

It's a very expensive skin care line and I have never tried any of their products.

Anyone have an opinion on them one way or another?

Might not ever be able to afford the products but I'm curious!!!

I've used a couple of their products. Yes, La Mer is a great product and like you said very expensive. There are other products out there that are comparable and a lot less money. I'll be in touch.

Hey Ansley,

For the past few years, I've even become more "natural" than before. I very rarely wear makeup except for some face powder and lip color.

But I'm thinking of doing a few things differently. Shaking it up, some.

And it's been rather fun looking for cremes and elixirs and whatever else that might assist me looking a bit more polished.

So any advice would be appreciated. My skin is very fair and super sensitive and so finding products that address that is sometimes a challenge.

La Mer seems to be one of the gold standards in skin care. But for all I know, Oil of Olay moisturizer could be just as effective.

Warmest regards,
Elisabeth

La Mer was way too heavy for my skin. It made me break out. A lot of ladies in my family use it religiously and swear by it though.

The BEST product I've ever used for my skin (prone to dullness and super sensitive) was a regimen of Elizabeth Arden Intervene products with the Clear the Way mask by EA as well. My skin glowed....and it's all discontinued. My skin hasn't been the same since. The Prevage line is a trifle TOO strong and my skin rebelled. The only thing I'd still use from EA would be the ceramide capsules.

If any of you ladies have a product recommendations feel free to send them my way.

Default Animal Testing

CDLM are owned by Estee Lauder who are involved in animal testing so I would never use it.
I use an amazing American skincare range that I love. It is paraben free, suitable for vegetarians and does not test on animals. The moisturisers work really well - great for sensitive skin and also work as a primer too. I have noticed a huge difference in my skin since buying these products. I used to suffer from dry skin, despite using moisturiser twice a day. The moisturiser I now use soaks down into the dermis instead of just sitting on the epidermis and feeds my skin with healthy nutrients. Their range extends far beyond skincare and the pricing is very reasonable for the quality of product..
Elisabeth, if you would like to know more just DM me

I finally went to the dermatologist after years of trying different products and spending and wasting money on that stuff. I went thru tons of creams including La Mer. Nothing worked like what my dermatologist put together - the prime one was Retin A - for sensitive skin I think it's called retinal creme. Plus other products to boost the retin a - like a brightner, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen - Always use sunscreen!! It was the best investment - wow,it worked. Cleared my skin, smaller pores, brighter skin, got rid of some dark spots. Once I read an article on the most over priced creams and La Mer was right up there. I wish I would of gone to a dermatologist years ago - not only are they knowledgeable but they can detect abnormalities on the skin that can lead to skin cancer.

Elisabeth,I am your age and I have super sensitive skin with redness on my cheeks.I have used the whole line of La Mer and found it to be okay...Austin Ellen is right.A good retinol for sensitive skin a toner serum moisturizer and SUNSCREEN is crucial.Even walking to our car or any uv light can age the skin.I personally have tried ROC retinol for sensitive skin.My go to products that I have used for years is Renee Rouleau. She is based in Austin now but has two skin spas here one in Plano and Dallas.Check out her stuff. Its not cheap,But cheaper tha La Mer.I worked in cosmetics and skin care for years.PS yes I tan my body once a week but never my face

Maybe this is off topic but what is the alternative to animal testing? Should we test on live humans first? Send a product directly to the consumer without testing it at all? I pity the poor animals but then again, what alternative is there to find out if a product is even safe to use on our skin? I'm really curious to know?im not just being confrontational, promise.

I use Oil of Olay. Honestly, i do believe face care starts with face wash. I use the Oil of Olay pore refiner, the St Ives Oatmeal Scrub, and Neutrogena Sensitive Clear wash. I wash my face in the morning and in the evening. I then use OIl of olay 7 face lotion which does have SPF. I then use the Oil of olay CC cream. At night, I use Aveeno night cream. I can take pics. That's it. This time of year, I do use the oil of olay regenerist on top of each bc my face will get dry if i don't double lotion. Everyone always tells me my skin looks great so i keep sticking with it. Also, I don't wear a lot of makeup, ever. oh, and drink lots of water. I drink about 90 to 100 oz a day. Hope all this helps.

Before I decided not to be fancy-scmancy anymore, my fancy-schmancy 'dermatologist ' answered the same question of mine with " use what you like and that smells good. It's all the same, really".
For me, that's Trader Joe's vitamin e on my hands and (short) nails, cephalon to clean my face followed by with aveda toner and some retain A . That and some Botox from forementioned fancy dr and I just accept what is. Eventually it's about your soul. Unless it's not and that is a lesser thing to me and the people who shared theirs with me.
(Hi Elizabeth!!!). Sydney.

Hi There Elisabeth,

A few years ago I was getting ready to go to France on an almost month long backpack trip. I really didn't have the room for face wash, body wash, face creams and shampoo and conditioner. My daughter suggested I take baby shampoo in place of face wash, body wash and a fancy shampoo. She said, "It's mild enough for your face, body and hair every day plus it's cheap and readily available pretty much anywhere in the world." She was right and I still use it for a body wash everyday. When I travel it's still a mainstay.

These creams are so expensive and we never really know if they are worth it. For years I used a "Say YES" product. I'm pretty sure I'm older than you so I used, "Say YES to Blueberries" it's about 20 bucks per container and lasts about 2.5 months maybe longer. They also have serums and night creams but it's nice line of skin creams, shampoos, make up removers and such for a very reasonable amount of money. The best part is that they are all natural. The blueberry line is 97.9 % natural. I like that.

Today I use Kiehls. It's more expensive but they have a great line of products. Their face wash is excellent. Perhaps consider buying a "Clarisonic" for cleaning your face. It helps remove dead skin and seriously cleans your pores removing a lot more make up than simply using your hands. I've never used botox, retin A, or other injectables in my face. The thought makes my skin crawl. A good facial is always a good thing. Lasers burn-- that's what they do so don't do that. The thought of burning or cutting my face off OMG!!!!

Lastly, UNREFINED coconut oil is nectar of the gods. It can be found in the grocery store for about 7 bucks a jar. You can use it on everything including a substitute for vegetable oil in baked goods. You can even feed it your dogs if you have one.

Question

I've worked at Neiman Marcus and the only La Mer product that is worth the $$$ is the eye cream. It really works. SKII works best for full face treatment its also much more expensive and also more popular than CDLM.
