As religions go, Buddhism may be the least uptight of them all, except for some sects of others. "The Middle Way" says avoid extremes and realize everything is ephemeral and relative. So adhering to guidelines may be important but not the be-all and end-all. Buddhist lore is filled with tales of monks and nuns stepping out temporarily or permanently to walk the wild side. The story of "Bobo Roshi" ("Master Fuck") has always been my fave.
