Default Weight Loss and Labido

Is there a correlation between calorie intake and labido?

I have been dieting for the past two months. Eating healthy foods but mostly just calorie restriction and exercise. It has had very positive effect on my BMI. But in the past few weeks I have been cutting back to 1,000 calories a day and have been noticing a decrease in labido.

Overall I feel great, have plenty of energy, and also am getting enough sleep.

Is this my bodies way of trying to conserve energy? Should I increase the calorie intake and try to continue to loose weight but over a longer time period?

Has anybody else noticed this while dieting?

I am not sure about dieting/weight loss and decrease in sexual drive, but there is a direct correlation to obesity and erectile dysfunction or low sex drive.

Make sure you are not anemic from your dieting. In addition if you are restricting your diet to to few calories a decrease in energy can result.

The correlation between obesity and erectile dysfunction/sex drive is directly related to testosterone production. The more out of control the obesity, the lower the production of t.

From doing a bit of online research, I have found some info on sex drive as it relates to dieting, but most of the info is in regards to female dieting.

Per the advice of my doctor, I am taking the recommended vitimins and diet supplements along with the weight loss program.

There is no correlation between caloric intake and libido if you are taking enough calories where you have plenty of energy for other things. 1000 cal is low but you seem to be doing fine with it.

What?!!! Did you mean "replace all exercise with sex"? It would not be much fun to have sex without exerting any physical effort. That's what our wives do.

I had the same issue a number of years ago when I lost significant weight. After about a year of what was low libido (for me (but my girlfriend was relieved; saved wear and tear on her orifices)), a doctor performed a complete workup, including vitamin, amino acid, and a whole laundry list of other things in the Krebs cycle as well as hormone balance.

The result showed I was very low on testosterone.

Now I take monthly injections to boost my testosterone levels, so I am back to bothering anything with orifices again. My girlfriend moved on, though; she liked the low T me bothering her for sex only once a day. So I became a hobbyist.

Low T is being diagnosed at such an increased rate that it is being called an epidemic. In reality more men are reading about it and getting tested. The modern lifestyle is a t killer.

Did you start with transdermal gel and then go to the injections? Low testosterone is being discussed more frequently on web forums and the most common form of replacement is the gel. Do you self inject of go into the doctors office for the injections?

I get an injection once every 3 - 3 1/2 weeks. This does help with the energy level and makes you horny as hell. Then again, I stay horny all the time.

You freaking moron... a 1000 calories/day will not not sustain a grown man's life. I'm surprised he's able to much of ANYTHING...

FREAKING MORON? Ya I guess that would be me! When I'm dieting (MetFast) I take potassium and 300 calories per day. When I'm off the diet I in take 1000-1500 calories per day and slowly gain wieght. So I guess your talking about me! But what do I know, I'm just a FREAKING MORON doctor!

Oh, and as my friend Mr. Addict would say, I'm not answering for Mr WhiteChocolate... I'm just putting my .02 Cents in!

If you just recently cut back to 1000 calories per day, your body may think you're in starvation mode and will actually store energy more efficiently. Most of the nutritionists that I've spoken with or read recommend limiting the reduction to 500-1000 calories from your normal level. If that is something your Dr recommended to get you to lose the weight, I would consider talking to a nutritionist. Weight loss isn't necessarily a good thing if your body is breaking down lean muscle for energy.

A co-worker of mine paid $1500 out of his pocket for a metabolic test. His daily calorie expenditure was 850-900 calories. He's not very active, and spends most of the days sitting in a chair. He's also fairly short and in his mid 40's, which also affect his daily intake.

Hope this helps!
