Unhappy Ric Ocasek of The Cars passes away at 75!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!

Quote:
Ric Ocasek, most famous as the founder and frontman of the iconic new wave band The Cars, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cars has died, the New York Police Department confirmed Sunday.

He was found unresponsive at his East 19th Street residence in Manhattan on Sunday, according to NYPD reports from. The NYPD didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Ocasek released seven studio albums with The Cars between 1978 and 2011, beginning with their hit self-titled album featuring the singles "My Best Friend's Girl" and "Good Times Roll."

Ocasek also released several solo albums, including Beatitude (1982), Fireball Zone (1990), Troublizing (1997) and Nexterday (2005). He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on April 14, 2018.
Last year, Ocasek and supermodel Paulina Porizkova, his wife of 28 years, announced that they were separating after 28 years of marriage. The pair met while shooting the video for 1984's "Drive" and had two children together.

UNFORTUNATELY, many of these pop and rock stars we grew up with in the 70's and 80's are now getting to be in their 70's and 80's years of age.

They will start to drop like flies.

Behold the killing fields that lie before us: Bob Dylan (78 years old); Paul McCartney (77); Paul Simon (77) and Art Garfunkel (77); Carole King (77); Brian Wilson (77); Mick Jagger (76) and Keith Richards (75); Joni Mitchell (75); Jimmy Page (75) and Robert Plant (71); Ray Davies (75); Roger Daltrey (75) and Pete Townshend (74); Roger Waters (75) and David Gilmour (73); Rod Stewart (74); Eric Clapton (74); Debbie Harry (74); Neil Young (73); Van Morrison (73); Bryan Ferry (73); Elton John (72); Don Henley (72); James Taylor (71); Jackson Browne (70); Billy Joel (70); and Bruce Springsteen (69, but turning 70 next month).

A few of these legends might manage to live into their 90s, despite all the … wear and tear to which they've subjected their bodies over the decades. But most of them will not.

The fact that he lived till 75 is remarkable. As you wrote CG, most of these musicians abuse their bodies a lot. You would think that they would all die in their twenties and thirties. Modern medicine, modern surgery, and the funds to pay for the best medical facilities are the reasons why they live so long despite all the self-abuse.

I'm glad Ric Ocasek lived such a full long life, outliving many many people and dying an old man. RIP Ric.

As for these celebrities living till they're in their nineties...what's the point? Once you've reached your late seventies, your body has become so weak & infirm that you're just waiting to die. Most people at that age can't work, can't drive, can't have sex, can't go on vacations...can't do much but just stay inside their home or senior care facility.

People get so hung up on how long they should live i.e "I'm going to live till 100! Fuck yeah!" Well the quality of your life is much more important. Life is more than breathing, eating, shitting, and sleeping day after day. I would much rather live a vibrant active interesting life and die in my sixties then live a miserable protracted painful boring life and die in my nineties. After a certain age, life just becomes a constant haze of pain, medications, surgeries, and misery. That's why some old people are so grumpy..it's because they're in constant pain from the arthritis, cancers, gout, and all the other health ailments they're suffering from day after day.

It's not like I win a "long life award" if I make it to my eighties or nineties LOL. Even if I win this award, who will you give it to? Will you give it to my dead rotting ancient corpse? ROFL.

It's not about the number of moments in your life but the moments that take your breath away. We're all going to die, good people & evil people. Therefore, death cannot be a punishment. Don't fear it so much. I would never seek out death because I love life too much but I also won't let the fear of death spoil my pleasure of partaking in life.

basically true. what's weird is that when we are, say, 40 or 50, we say this, and are content with the idea of expiring at 78-80 years old. but when we get there.. daily drugs, pain, debilitation and all, nobody is ready to give it up. very few are, at least. which is why something like half of all medical costs are incurred for people who are within 30 days of death.

Ocasek's band mate, Benjamin Orr, barely made it to 53. Ocasek's oldest Son is 55, his youngest is 20. that Rascal sired 2 children with each of 3 wives. I guess they will have a little spending change now.

Excellent point, Chung. The closer we are to death, the more we cling on to life.

You got to admire a guy in a video with a hot chick, and references to "Robot Monster,"The Fly," "Christine," and "King Kong."

He was married to Czech born Paulina Porizkova.

Who at 18 in 1984 became the first model from Central Europe to grace the cover of the iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

In the following year in 1985, she was the cover model for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue again.

The only other models who have been on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue cover in consecutive years were Christie Brinkley (1979, 1980, 1981) and Elle MacPherson (1986, 1987, 1988).

MacPherson also holds the record for having been on the cover 5 times.

Oh yes, I forgot about Eddie Money.

Who is next?

You know what they say when these famous folks die,

they always die in 3.

Spoken like someone who 1) isn't past 60; and 2) who hasn't seen The Rolling Stones on their recent concert tour. Two solid hours of hard work on the stage. Haven't slowed down a bit, and all between 70 and 75.

But Ocasek may not have had much to live for. His wife, Paulina Porizkova, left him a couple of years ago. And yes, though she's sorry to seem him go, we're very happy, thank you.

My youth started to die when Glenn Fry passed away. I read in the above list Blondie is 74! I'm starting to feel my age.

CG thanks for posting vids. I have to admit I’m still a sucker the women’s hair styles in the 80’s. The big frizzy perms up top and trimmed down below.
