Default GERMAN SUBMARINE ATTACK ON HOOVER DAM

I was looking for an article that mentioned something about a mini sub blowing up a barge with a torpedo. I didn't find it.

but this caught my eye.

http://the-wanderling.com/hoover_dam.html

stop the presses!!!

this is a wild story where a german u-boat was supposed to go up the colorado river and torpedo the Hoover dam.

the way they were to do this was to dismantle the submarine into pieces and truck them and reassemble them back in place at the final designation point. the first part of the plan was successful, but he 2nd part of the plan failed.

interesting story!

who ever came up with this plan over thought and over-engineered this rube gold-berg plan. that's very german thinking! lol!

simpler plan would have been to truck a 1 pound torpedo up steam from the dam. put it on a boat. get close enough to the dam and launch it. boat should make it back to shore before torpedo hit dam.

The OP link reads like bad fan fiction. I've crossed the dam several times, toured the interior and seen all the Transformer movies. I don't see how the Germans could run a Uboat UP the Colorado. I don't see how the German get a minisub to Lake Mead, assemble it and launch a torpedo attack on the intakes.

I could see how they could get a artillery pieces to the vicinity and ammo, assemble it and do some damage. They might even get a large suicide truck or suicide boat loaded with explosives to the dam and blow it up.

But the sub is an outlandish idea with a relatively small shaped charge that might not even hit its target. The Germans are smarter than that.

I guess one would have to wonder why the Germans would dream up such a ridiculous scheme, when a handful of illegal immigrants recruited by the Germans (who had a U-Boat base at Veracruz during WWII and a treaty with Mexico) to sneak into the area a set some explosives in strategic locations.

I'm familiar with the first link. The Germans couldn't even get a small group of spies and supplies onto the mainland.

IMO, the most outlandish war machine/plot devised (other than the Manhattan Project) was the Japanese subs/aircraft carriers that were created for attack on the US mainland. Two were actually built.

It takes a very special design of sub to function in a river. The US Navy has retrofitted subs for that purpose, I have known men who served on those subs. But the river must have very deep draft.

If environmentalists had their way, they would blow up Hoover Dam now.

They actually think that the yearly flooding that once occurred in the Colorado River Valley is more important than the virtually free electricity and the extremely valuable water that gets impounded.

Blowing up dams is mainstream liberal thought.
