Not exactly. My point is that we're here to discuss the hobby and to share information about it, making it safer and more enjoyable for all involved. Running off providers accomplishes nothing, other than to reduce the number of providers.

Riddle me this, Father W: What is the point of the drama, and the grief that seems to rain down on new providers if they somehow get on the radar of some of our local he-men? What's the upside? (Other than to allow one he-man to brag to another about how he outsmarted a poor, dumb provider?)

First, I'm not doing anything with regards to Carkiddo; I don't know the guy. If he says something worth agreeing with, I'll agree with it. I care more about the ideas being discussed than the personalities behind them.

As far as carnal delight, tell me again how running off providers enhances this for anyone?

Heck, I've thought some guys were total idiots here, but they turned out to be nice guys in person. I have no doubt that the same applies to providers; I'm sure there are several who rub me the wrong way online, but who'd be a whole lot of fun to play with BCD. What's the upside of running them off?

In short: If you run off providers, there's less fun to go around. That's the harm to hobbyists. To the provider involved, it's more direct: You are fucking with her source of income. Only a fool does that lightly.

A lot of what goes on there is satire. Plenty of it is just folks blowing off steam. Regardless, it's a perfect place for behavior that would be labeled as antisocial in many settings, and you've got to have a sense of humor to hang out there. This is well known amongst the Islanders, and that's a key reason they go there.

And that's important. People join the Y for the humor and amusement. They come here for information, or if they're providers, to market themselves to potential clients.

In the past few months, I've seen a huge number of posts here that would fit into the culture of the Island, but are totally at odds with what goes on here. Group dynamics being what they are, some folks go along with it, and that's fine... until someone gets hurt, or their business gets screwed up because of it.

It's a matter of degree, and some of the guys here are so focused on showing what he-men they are that they lose track of the fact that their actions do have impact on others.

To many, all this is just a game. To most of the guys, it's a very enjoyable hobby.

But to providers, it's their livelihood. We should never forget that. We owe them this.

I stand by my statement. We owe it to the providers to remember that this thing of ours is their livelihood. And that Eccie is a venue in which they communicate with their customers.
