No one's behavior should be taken 'on faith'. Especially given the vulnerability most women in this situation have by definition.

As for the original question in the thread - I have been surprised by friends many times. I tend not to put people on pedestals - I expect more of some than others, but all the same people are fallible. And few, especially here, are "heroes" (I reserve that accolade for veterans, usually).

Hypocrisy is one of my pet peeves though, and one I call out often. If you're going to talk the talk, at least pretend to walk the walk.
