To be independent - - really independent requires prodigious combination of skills: advertising and marketing in a minefield; ability to screen quickly and effectively without alienating business or attracting law enforcement, thugs or creeps; mobility (ability to travel); high proficiency in language and communication skills; and [we hope] decent TCB/BCD skills all at reasonable cost.

Many providers lack one or more of those skills, resources, training... Their own limitations leave them "vulnerable" whereas without assistance/coaching/protection, the provider may be more exposed as "indie" - - thus we see many providers work their way through managed arrangements before they develop sufficient skills/confidence/security to "go indie" ...

Working under compulsion is offensive to all reasonable notions of social justice and should not be tolerated in any civilized society.

Why not ask around? Maybe make a pimp risk assessment checklist with whatever traits pimped girls usually display! Or even better CALL THE GIRL AND ASK WHO YOU ARE TALKING TO If the "booker/pimp/agency" lies and/or you suspect something fishy POST IT IN THE REVIEW

Oh and of course, don't go to a girl who you know has one!
