I don't mean to pile on, but one member's thought provoking commentary is another's negativity and drama. As far as I know, each of us has five choices.
- Avoid posting altogether except for the occasional review or comment on reviews or hobby brass tacks. I did this for many many years on the wisdom that it's better to be silent and thought dumb than to open your mouth and prove it.
- Comment while trying to be courteous, considerate and act like an adult, but follow your own conscience and don't worry when you inevitably fail to please everyone or someone gets exasperated because you're not commenting the way they would prefer you to comment. This has been my mode here since I decided to take a more active role in the community. From observing you here, it also seems to be your way, Scarlett.
- Waste time, energy and integrity trying to please everyone.
- Say whatever the fuck comes to mind without an ounce of self-restraint.
- Actively troll in order to get a rise out of anyone who will take the bait. Echoing what Listener said, this is by definition almost guaranteed to attract the most attention as long as the trolls are skilled. Note that in this context I'm not misusing the term troll in the Pickwickian sense that most people nowadays use it as just another insulting epithet to call people they dislike, but rather in the original sense of someone who camps out by a high-traffic area and tailors his or her behavior in a calculated effort to elicit strong reactions from the passers-by. [Edited to expound on what I mean here by troll.]
Another thing to consider is that some of us, myself included, only start an occasional thread because we prefer to speak only when we have something to say and we're more apt to have something to say when thinking about what someone else said, and/or we'd like to give others a chance to say something without getting bumped out of sight right away.

Isn't speaking for yourself sufficient? You shouldn't try to take everyone so literally.
I don't think it need be either or: naked pics and ads can comfortably coexist with thoughtful discourse and with threADs and even with Drama. YUP!
As to the OP's question: It would seem that a shortage of thought will naturally result in a shortage of thoughtful threads.

I actually agree with that last sentence.

Sadly, the drama threads have the biggest thread count, in general. Knowing that the train wrecks are good for ECCIE's bottom line, and that is why some people stir the pot, why don't people just ignore that fact and interject some damn sunshine by starting there own threads?!
I don't think anyone stirs the pot specifically for the benefit of ECCIE. I have suggested that ECCIE is tolerant of threads that others deplore BECAUSE they are good for ECCIE (as well as within guidelines)
It's easy to do. Anyone can do it! This place needs some seratonin..proverbial prozac every once in a while!
I suppose it takes more creativity to interject something positive and thought provoking than idiotic drama threads? Yes, I just said that. hmmmmm.... I tend to think my threads are rather creative at times..... Now you have me thinking I need to try harder.... maybe this time next year I can hear those coveted words..... "Now presenting the Award for most Creative Thread in the Drama category will be....." and I will be one of the nominees...
Call the drama threads a social experiment while the big dogs are busy. They will be back. They will always be here. I implore you.... They are never really gone!..... With limited time and needy people craving attention everywhere they have to be selective...
Start a positive thread, no putting anyone down, drama or negativity. hmmmmm
Random acts of kindness people here have done for you. This can be anything as small as a comment that made you smile to a heart felt thank you to someone here, that is okay with mentioning it or even something you witnessed. You don't have to mention names or anything.
I will go first: I was in the hospital once, at one of the worst times in my life and none of my family knew. I was very scared. In one of my darkest hours, the only person who came to visit was a hobbyist.
I will NEVER forget that! It made a major impact on the way I looked at things after that.
Earlier, Lonewonder complimented my random music choice and it made my night! It was simple, but I knew he meant it and it made me smile
I have tons more stories, but want to hear yours.

hmmm.... Stories?......

I guess some of you read the title only and chose not to respond to the point of the thread... To say something/anything positive about someone/anyone, specific or general. Sheezus!
Thank you, Ms. Valentina, for the thoughtful post.
I proved a point to myself yesterday. Thank you guys for that.

Guilty as charged . After so many back-to-back thought provoking threads by you I automatically assumed the rest would just be more of the same.
Didn't even see your thread count reference until after my post had been up for awhile.
Aside from that the rest pretty much stands.
We could always conduct a board experiment. Have everyone start a thread saying something really sweet and thought provoking.
Let's see if the board switches from Jerry Springer to Ellen or even Oprah. Since they basically draw female viewers perhaps more providers will tune in.
Wait a minute!! Are you sure this isn't just some sugar coated ploy to gain some P.... mafia recruits?
