USA played their hearts out but Belgium was too strong in the end. Great match to watch and the USA can hold their heads high.

Hit the USA/Belgium draw in regulation time at +260 ($1000 paid $2600)

US Problem is that they have no offensive star. We played good defense but terrible offense

Good defense? Really? Howard made 16 saves, most ever in a world cup match. Not a sign of a good defense.

let rephrase that, Howard played great defense but the rest of the team honestly sucked. I don't think the coach played the best players in the best positions. This whole WC US struggled to score. The US got real lucky that Portugal was as beat up as they were and without their star players which allowed the US to advance this far.

+100 (ie. even money bet) = risk $100 to win $100
-150 risk $150 to win $100
+150 risk $100 to win $150

The 2 numbers for the over/under are called an Asian Handicap bet. It's treated like 2 separate bets when the books pay out, so over 2,2.5 means that if the game has 3 more goals, you win because it went over 2 and over 2.5. If there are 2 goals total, you push the "2" and lose the "2.5" (so it's half loss total). If 1 or no goals are scored, you lose the whole bet.

Feel free to ask any other questions.
Sweet, thanks!

So for a straight up game bet, you are only betting for the regulation score, and if you want to bet on the final result you have to place a prop bet for ET / Penalties? Essentially meaning to bet on a true final you have to take a prop bet, and if the game doesnt go to ET or penalties, you lose no matter what? (EX A v B, B +2, the game ends in regulation A1 B2, you lose the bet because you prop bet for ET / Pen, even though you won the bet based on final score in regulation?)

Next year in Canadia, I believe. But short of another Brandy CHESTain moment, are we really going to watch?

College womens softball ill watch all day for the non-dyked out she-man cuties that are out there (Like the florida pitcher) but womens soccer? meh.

Ill likely turn the rest of the games on while at work just to glance in, as this has been one of the more exciting years with all the extra time games and penalty kick games. For some reason the excitement of the non-us games seems to be at an all time high for me this go.

It depends on the different types of prop bets your book is offering, but essentially that's correct. If you bet Belgium yesterday to win straight up including Extra Time you won that prop bet. If you bet the money line for regulation only you lost.

Is this the way it goes down in NFL games and other sports too? That if you bet the spread, and it goes to OT, the bet is determined by the score heading into OT?

No. For football, baseball and basketball, if you bet the money line, the point spread, and/or the total, it includes OT/extra innings.

The only other "major" sport that is different besides soccer is hockey. For the NHL, you can bet a team to win in regulation or after OT/Shootout.

Keep in mind that in soccer Extra Time only comes into play during certain tournaments and cup matches; during the regular season matches there is no Extra Time.

Most sports bettors/gamblers lose because they're not disciplined (they get greedy or make stupid bets), and they don't do their homework. It's like shooting craps at the casino, if you know the odds of each different bet at the table and stick to a strict system (and there are plenty of systems out there but all the good ones have one common denominator - stay away from the bad bets!), you can reduce the house advantage to almost nil (almost). But most people don't/can't do that.

Betting Colombia today to win or draw (2 separate bets). Yes, I could bet Colombia +1 (Asian Handicap) but I'm really confident they win or draw today.

Colombia ML +427 $1,000 to win $4,270
Colombia/Brazil Draw +287 $1,000 to in $2,870

*All bets are for regulation time only*

If Colombia wins, I'll win $3,270 ($4,270 less the $1,000 loss on the Draw)
If Colombia/Brazil draw, I'll win $1,870 ($2,870 less the $1,000 loss on the ML bet)
If Brazil wins, I lose $2,000

No risk, no reward!

I bet you lost 2,000. One thing to learn is Brazil, host nation of the world cup will not lose no matter what. Another thing is Colombia was never a strong team they made it to the quarter finals by a fluke.

Nice home cooking for Brazil! Win some, lose some, on to tomorrow.

By the way, I won't disclose much of my personal background, but I've been handicapping (at one time professionally) and betting sports for over 25 years. It's a tough business and I'll be the first one to admit there are easier ways to make a living.

For Sunday:

Argentina/Belgium over 2,2.5 +103
Belgium pk,+1/2 +108
Netherlands -1 -105

Neymar is out of the World Cup with a back injury. Lots of money coming in on Germany, but I have a feeling Brazil will get more home cooking. A red card to be shown will be a good prop bet for that game.
