You are correct that many are disingenuous. However, you must also allow for the fact that the world does have many with different levels of naivete, different exposures to the Universe, different capacities to perceive that Universe. Perhaps we all get to perceive different slices of the same Universe, and what might appear impossibly naive to one person, and hence disingenuous, would not from another's point of view?
In any case, why should OP's motives and character be of concern to any of us? How free is any of us of flaws even more egregious? This is not to impugn your remark, but a general observation.
