That's interesting, Trey. You've seemed logical and objective in your posts, and I respect your input. You have a point about women shifting blame for killing their children. The media portrays them as victims, along with some racial minorities.

I do have to disagree about the media seeing white as right; man, it seems to me to be just the opposite. Can we agree that when some heinous crime is reported with a photo of the perp, he's usually white, and it's become a good bet that a story without a photo will usually involve a black perp? Sort of like politicians indicted/convicted for corruption are usually either described as Republican or devoid of party affiliation if they're Democrats?

Anyway, I ain't mad at black people; it's the fucking white liberals in the media who seek to make blacks their mascots that piss me off.

I do agree with the lack of a photo or even a description sometimes when they have a black suspect. I don't think that's right and we can't fix things by hiding them. And I admit we black folks got a bunch to work on in our community covering our eyes does not help. But I don't agree with the media thing as much. Anyway the real skew for me is in the court system itself and convictions and sentences given.

I think you're absolutely right. The judicial system unnecessarily feeds large numbers of youngsters...especially black youngsters...into the Colleges of Advanced Criminality they call penitentiaries...mainly for trivial drug offenses.

I would call them crime universities as well. My brother went to alternative school for a year and I was amazed at the amount of ***** and black market goods he could find after going there for a year. We sent him to a military style school after that and he fared much better there. I can't imagine what you can find after being in prison for a year or more. So far only Bernie has said anything about repealing the laws on ********. I really want this to happen so we can keep ***** ********, murders, and rapists in jail longer instead of a revolving door so we can house *** *****. If you had a choice between who you'd let out first I'm pretty sure everyone would agree on letting the ******* go and keep old Jared in there as long as you can.

Back to Don and Trey's more intellectual discussion, .....Is it possible that the media just want's to sell advertising and air time?

I do fully understand most or all of y'all's very healthy discussion. But add this thought.

SpinBC makes a one hour documentary of the beautiful young dance from Portland. Who is going to watch it? I thinck very few people. It will make everyone sad and depressed or maybe even scared. They don't want to be so they will tune out or away. Plus,....it would be soooooo boooooooring.

Now lets say they make a one hour documentary of the 17 year-old victom. Everybody wants to see this one, right? They want to understand:

-- what broke him

-- what happened to him that could have happened to them and now they are a risk

-- does his history match up to the young neighbor thug down the street and is my daughter at risk

-- what is broken in our school system that needs to be fixed by lowering the bar for everyone

-- how was he able to run away from his foster home and why did he do it

-- why is life so difficult in usa that a couple can't raise their little baby to be a respectful contributor to society. maybe viewers are looking to justify their own failures or failures of their own parents. maybe all children grow up to take the easy way out and blame their parents for being limited by their parents failures.

-- the drama and the suspense and "need to know" sells air time.

I see lots of great points to make and some great in strength but not in the right direction. If the media wants to exploit the problems, they need to do the same for the solutions and, sometimes, the truth hurts.

I probably left many thoughts complete and didn't do the best I could to complete my thoughts. Certainly I didn't complete an argument, because I don't really have one. In some respects, it is hopeless.
