Yeah, we all know Asswipe is a "cocksucking pig" - but he's not here anymore. He's on vacation for 3 months. It's a waste of bandwidth to keep hyperventilating about him, so why don't you just take a valium and wipe the spittle off your chin?

You're an idiot. You're confusing arson, a crime against another's property with an expression of political speech. If I buy a flag, and burn it to show my displeasure with the government, who have I harmed? No one. If I steal a steal a flag and burn it, then I am guilty of theft and destruction of someone else's property. Not for burning a flag, per se. You destroy someone else's property out of protest, you have committed a crime. By the way, you're always spouting off about SCOTUS. Were they wrong when they ruled that flag burning was free speech?

Try this out. This is a great perspective on this issue:

According to you? Now that's funny.

The U.S. flag is a symbol of this country. There is a "property" interest in the symbol, and the attack on the symbol is an attack on that interest. When it's "convenient" you focus on the physical ownership of the item, and I'm focusing on the exercise of a freedom.....if one can justify the destruction of the symbol I can justify the destruction of the property on the same basis.

You may disagree with the comparison, but name calling only confirms you have conceded the point. That's all you have. The "idiocy" is justifying the destruction of our flag.

I almost forgot. Did you claim to be a "law professor"?

Did you actually read "United States v. Eichman
496 U.S. 310 (1990)" before starting your name calling?

Or did you just stick to the media regurgitation ....

... which also in some instances reported "Scalia" wrote the opinion!

I remember this lesson from the Boy Scout Handbook:

A U.S. flag should be retired when it is ripped, faded, frayed or otherwise unserviceable as an emblem of the country. Though U.S. Code does not provide specific details on methods of destroying unserviceable flags, the American Legion developed its own ceremony to destroy flags respectfully through burning. Some chapters of the American Legion, VFW, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts accept public donations of damaged flags for retirement ceremonies.
Individuals are also permitted to dispose of their own flags privately. Though there is no legal penalty for improper disposal of the flag, groups such as the American Legion consider improper disposal disrespectful

The "issue" regarding "flag burning" is not relevant to "disposal" of a damaged or otherwise "non-serviceable" U.S. flag .... it has to do with the symbolism it represents, along with some blood and cuts spilled into order to assure the continued existence of the "symbolism" that is being disrespected and marginalized by some.

There is no "Constitutional Right" to burn the U.S. flag any more than there is a "Constitutional Right" to an abortion. At one time in our history the original "Amendments" didn't even apply to the States by interpretation of the SCOTUS.... AND from there were carved many "protections" applying to the States as well as the Feds as the original Amendments are "interpreted" in any given time by the then existing Justices.

Even a "want-a-be-law-professor" like COG ought to know that, but Obaminable doesn't know it either and he was a "law professor"!!!! So, I'll put COG in Obaminable's category of "law professors," which is the "Bullshitter Group" who cuts and pastes!

Never was a law professor in a law school. But free speech is a fundamental right. If you can't speak against your government either vocally or symbolically, you're not in a free country. Did you read Penn Jillette's column? He's got it right. He believes in freedom. You don't.

And you are an idiot.

You voted for whom for President this year? Or do you remember?

Or did someone join you in the booth to make sure you didn't have any hanging chads or electric glitches. Or did they just read the selections for you that you marked?

Keep believing the government. Flag burning is free speech. It will remain that way. Regulation of political speech is subject to the highest scrutiny. You don't want people who disagree with you to have a voice. That makes you a statist. You also favor unlimited surveillance. Clearly, you have no understanding of the Constitution. And your ad hominem attacks on me do not change that. In fact, you have stated that when a person resorts to those kinds of attacks, they have lost the argument.

So you lose. And you're an idiot, YugoLover.

The Eichman case seems pretty clear. The burning of a flag privately owned as an act of protest is subject to the highest scrutiny and protected by the First Amendment. That's my position, too. Surprised that I agree with Justice Brennan, but he had his good days.

Did you have a point, YugoLover?
