I think the funny thing in a sad way the California legislators saw this coming and passed the law not to arrest underage girls.

I saw some of the statements by the BP owners and others to me sounds like the idea of fighting to get BP adults back is just a vain fight with no teeth just like CL its gone forever.

It is all about the money. The government pressure on cc companies to not process payment started a slow death. Without a revenue stream, hard to defend yourself against all the government lawsuits and investigations.

They could have left up strippers... that's legal.

I bet the government shuts down the W for M site in no time you know they are going to pickup exactly what is going on. After reading about this battle between BP and the government. I would not be surprised if they force BP to shut down totally or play by the CL rules. BP let ads run that have girls advertising rates for services. BP also was picking and choosing what ads they posted and what ads they flagged but doing so randomly and not by criteria. There is a lot more but these are a few basics I read about.

First of all, the government did not shut down the BP adult sections. The government exerted pressure on the credit card companies to not allow payments to Backpage for adult ads, which reduced their revenue stream forcing them to shut the ads down.

Second of all, Craigslist does not flag solicitation ads, Craigslist's users do.

Government meddling caused the shut down, but they didn't actually force it. That sort of takes the whole 1st amendment argument off the table.

Either way, it sucks.

I agree the CC deal started the beginning of the end but at the same time they did not want to keep fighting the system so they make good money over the years and walked away. Smart move.

I read they were changing ads to make them more acceptable to be on BP so this may be one of the things which moves it away from just taking ads and posting them and puts it into promoting prostitution.

I agree the government did not shut them down directly but forced the shut down because of financial pressure. Plus the findings in documents subpoena. Craigslist's users do flag ads but, CL also reviews ads and according to CL themselves flag or remove ads that contain the promotion of prostitution or nudity (You can tell they don't do a good job on that part). I agree it does suck. I bet these girls jump to TOS and now think they are all worth 200 an hour.
