The way the law is written... they can legally track your IP address... track back to phone through warrant through internet providers... through bread-crumbing tracking. Basically internet services like this are complete hotspots. Find who owns the servers and wipe them. Combine this with working with FBI, and other Federal agencies being asked to support the investigations... ( there asked a lot...) and now at this level. Anything moving forward through online tracking.

You’re better off just not logging in and going about your business. What you posted prior to 9/1 likely doesn’t matter, and nowhere have I seen that being a member of an adult-themed board in and of itself is illegal.

You'd think that folks who have been around a while would know this, but apparently not. But even if they did delete your history, there is still the Wayback Machine that may have caught a lot of it. This is the internet; don't put anything out there that you might want back later.

It does make me wonder, though. What will happen if the U.S. ever gets one of those "Right to Be Forgotten" laws like they're talking about in Europe?

I get why someone may just stop logging in, for the reason you stated. Maybe even going so far as disabling an account, if you’re trying to get out of the hobby altogether and don’t want to make it too easy to pick up where you left off.

But folks are just kidding themselves if they believe their accounts are going to disappear unless the site shuts down altogether (and even then, nothing truly is expunged from the internet). All staff is doing when someone requests to have their account deleted is disabling their account.

It does seem like quite a few of the guys are in panic mode. The same thing happened when the whole BP deal went down. From what I've heard by some of the guys I've chatted with, they are fearful of being exposed to not only public eye, but also to their families and such. I think some will be back, but it'll take a little bit.
