I'm watching Cuomo's press conference now. He's struggling.

How is tracing so important? It's not like an STD were tracing is viable because you've got to fuck somebody. Remember, the virus is spread primarily through particulates ejected through the mouth, or at least that's the theory from the last 48 hours.

Cuomo's closing the barn doors after the cows left. Remember this thing spread "exponentially."

Tracing is just an effort to control the population. Not a diagnosis tool. How we going to trace the illegals?

Cuomo is also asking the Fed govt to help. No specifics. "Untangle the supply chain." Duh. Everyone is under a stay at home order that the Dims don't want to undo.

Governor heal thyself.

I've said in this forum you can blame the poor response to the crisis on the CDC, the FDA, Cuomo, and past administrations, including Obama's.

To be clear I hated Obama. I merely dislike Trump. OK, strongly dislike. We haven't had a decent president since Clinton's 2nd term and a good president since George H. W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.

The federal government sucks up our money and increases our debt and provides little in return. Trump hasn't changed this. Yes, he did reduce the burden on business through deregulation and tax cuts, but we still can't rely on our federal government for jack. He hasn't changed that one iota. We depend on the states and localities for almost everything.

This is a worldwide pandemic. The federal government should be the one that prepares for this. Right now, in the bill that's held up in Congress, there's $25 billion allocated for testing. It's about fucking time. Trump should have gotten up on his bully pulpit a couple of months ago and demanded something like that. He didn't because he wasn't listening to the infectious disease experts.

As to your question, Trump tweeted this the other day, "Biden/Obama were a disaster in handling the H1N1 Swine Flu. Polling at the time showed disastrous approval numbers. 17,000 people died unnecessarily and through incompetence! Also, don’t forget their 5 Billion Dollar Obamacare website that should have cost close to nothing!”

Hilarious. Look at the number of people who are going to die and the amount of money that will be spent on the new coronavirus. We're up to 40,000 lives and at least $2 trillion in cost at the federal level. Is it Trump's fault that 40,000 people have died? Hell no. Is it Obama's fault that 17,000 people died? Again, hell no. As you say, it's a political game.

That said, Trump's personality and background make him unsuited to handle this crisis and Obama likely would have done better, except he probably wouldn't have shut down travel from China as soon. Why? Cut out the hyperbole, for example Trump's not a fucking moron, and HoeHummer got the gist of it here,

Finally, as to your question about the opioid crisis, I don't have a clue. If you want an answer you might research it and post about it.

I will also complement you on your writing and applaud you for attempting to have a civil debate. I try but unfortunately like Trump, when disparaged, tend to hit back and eventually I will stop when I realize I'm doing what I call others on. I'm a work in progress but if one is civil with me, I will be civil with them no matter how much we disagree with each other.

I wouldn't say that I have been "suckered into" playing the political game of blame. 99% of what I post is trying to point out the hypocrisy played out by the Democrats. I didn't hate Obama and virtually every time I reference him it is not to say what he did is wrong ( I never said he was responsible for H1N1 deaths ) or bad although I do that, it is to point out that he did the same or similar to what Trump and or Republicans do but the left didn't call him on it or at least as far as my memory is concerned which isn't what it use to be admittedly.

Yes, it's called federalism! Much in debate every time something like this, though there hasn't been much like this exactly, happens. States must be better prepared because the federal government is not King as the Governor's remind us when it suits them. Each state is different and each State must recognize their individual needs so that the federal government doesn't have 50 different needs to attend to. North Dakota doesn't need as many hospital beds and PPE as New York. So if the legislature of North Dakota thinks they can save money by not buying what they think they will never need and depend on the federal government to take this responsibility which should be theirs, they get fucked.

Quote:

Nor should he. Governor's are now telling Trump "you can't tell us what to do" out of one side of their mouth and begging for his help out of the other. This idea that each state couldn't have been ready for a pandemic if they thought it necessary is ridiculous. When the shit hits the fan and States are competing for PPE with the federal government, who you say has the ultimate responsibility, what do we suppose will happen when two entities bid against each other? Common sense should tell us that if each state took this responsibility to be prepared for what might hit their state and not cry about how the President isn't giving them what they need, we would be better prepared. "The federal government is not the answer to your problem" should be the motto hanging in every Governor's office in the country. To say that each state isn't capable of taking care of their own needs is a fallacy. It's how the Constitution was set up. Any responsibility not enumerated in the Constitution is left up to the States. If it says in the Constitution that the federal government is mandated with keeping each state with the medical supplies necessary to weather a pandemic, I don't see it.

Yeah, because Trump demanding anything from Nancy Pelosi works out so well. From a post I just made on the Navarro issue, it suggested that Trump did start a process for money early on while on Feb. 29th, Nancy Pelosi was in Chinatown telling her constituents to "come on down" and celebrate the Chines New Year". " Get the family out of the house" she was saying on Feb. 29th! Does that sound like somebody inclined to give Trump billions in January? And his expert Dr. Fauci telling him no need to worry YET? and Anderson Cooper and company putting doctors on air in early Mar. to explain why Influenza will be much worse than corona virus? These are the facts that people on the left simply refuse to take into account.

Quote:
He didn't because he wasn't listening to the infectious disease experts.

But he was, he just wasn't listening to his trade representative to which everybody in hindsight says he should have. It appears that Navarro was the lone voice for early intervention while other advisers were telling Trump something different including the leading expert on pandemics Dr. Fauci who was not recommending the kind of social distancing that came later.

I probably should have taken the time to research that but I find it hard to believe Democrats were part of that conclusion. I'm sure Republicans were blasting him.

I agree and again, my bringing Obama into the conversation was not to blame him but to show ( perhaps in error though I doubt it ) that Democrats are now blaming a Republican for something they wouldn't blame a Democrat for and yes it works both ways but it is the Democrats on display at this time IMHO.

HF - well done - particularly on Federalism and that the States bear primary responsibility for their own situations, and managing themselves appropriately.

The socialist Governors have been particularly vocal about "we need Federal bailouts and it is not our fault" - when faults in preparation by cuomo and NY have been well exposed. It is the philosophy of Federal control over all - and all monies should come from the Federal Central government - that repudiates the Constitution, and plays into the Socialist totalitarianism of the DPST party.

Cuomo wants the authority - but not the responsibility that goes with it, and NY already has the highest taxes - wasted money_- Cuomo sees the Federal budget as a NY bailout Uber Alles!

Thanks again for accepting the YR mantle and as pointed out in another thread your fake Canuck accent is slipping in and out becoming way too obvious.

Also, good that you are now acknowledging the fact you do indeed know about the RTM button after lying that you didn't.

But you are now repeatedly responding to many a thread directed at this YR, which you claim to not be you. Why would that get under your skin as it apparently is?

YR is certainly living in your head rent free and we all know why. LOL.

Go get some Timmies or maybe a Whale's tail and a double-double before you go for your two-four or maybe it's a Mickey for you. You fake Keener Canuck.

Hedonist, We're both strong believers in Federalism. You may be an even stronger believer than I am.

I'd put pandemic response in the same category as national defense. The federal government, the CDC, should be primarily responsible for coordinating that. Yes, treatment in hospitals, testing and tracing are largely done at the state and local and local level. But given the specialized knowledge you need to identify and respond to the threat, the federal government needs to play a strong role.

Gov Cuomo is struggling on TV again. If he thinks he can "Do no harm" he might as well keep NYC shut down. Virus virtue signalling. There's gonna be some type of spike.

Again, more than half the US COVID19 deaths are in the NYC metro area.

Fascist DPST's are trying desperately to siphon as much money out of Washington as possible - and keep their economies shut down - do as much damage as possible - and create a Great Depression for the world economy.

Out of Trump hatred!!!
