As I said before, the "prevent Trump from running again" rationale is a tell that the election was rigged. If you have an honest election and your guy got beat, why not let him run again? Because your concerned you can't steal it again.

Actually what it really means is the Democrats are afraid of a guy like Trump. If the President resigns, how does he get sworn in? At that point, they swear in the Vice President elect - just as if the President-elect had died after the election.

Also, a person can only be elected to two terms. If he resigned before the second term began, he wouldn't even be able to run for a third term after that.

I doubt the trial can take place "at the Senate's conveniece." Once the articles have been delivered, the Senates is obligated to start a trial process. That's one reason I belive Pelosi won't deliver the papers on time. If Trump runs again, there is no standing to simply "to have a trial." He would have to win again.

Now to the whole "disbarment" from running for President again, in what I've been told, is a separate issue.
