For me much rather try and minimize the effects should I get covid than suffer the long term aftereffects so many around me had endured. Most of them were otherwise healthy and active before and their struggle to fully recover is ongoing and unpleasant

The first mRNA vaccines were used in humans in 2013, prior to that testing and development was active for years. We just didn't need a mass vax program until Covid hit.

Speedracer, Are you getting the new monovalent vaccine? I’m leaning towards getting it along with my annual flu shot this weekend.

Unlike most people I’ve never had the disease, to my knowledge at least. So I’m relying on the vaccines entirely for immunity. If memory serves me correctly you did get the disease earlier this year, so if that’s correct I guess it would enter into your and your physician’s calculation of whether you should get the new booster.

This year’s shot should work pretty well against the variants out there right now, which are of XBB lineage, to prevent severe disease. It probably won’t work as well against the BA.2.86 variant, which is getting a lot of press and which is probably the one you’re thinking about. But scientists are predicting that one is a flash in the pan, that won’t infect many people.

I will more than likely get the booster. Just got my flu shot. My opinion -- no downside. I did get Covid sometime in 2022 if I remember correctly. I had a slight cough but didn't think twice about it. Only when my wife came down with more Covid symptoms did I get tested which was positive.

My physician does not administer my shots. I get them at CVS or Walgreens.
