I'm very interested in the why. Hopefully we'll get some answers...
Maybe some actions (positive ones) rather than snap reactions and the usual empty promises and thoughts and prayers for the surviving friends and family
And hopefully no crazy conspiracy theories will come out of the woodwork, though that would be very on point with the Charlie Kirk brand.

"I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe."
"Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty," he said. "Driving comes with a price—50,000, 50,000, 50,000 people die on the road every year. That's a price. You get rid of driving, you'd have 50,000 less auto fatalities. But we have decided that the benefit of driving—speed, accessibility, mobility, having products, services is worth the cost of 50,000 people dying on the road.
"So we need to be very clear that you're not going to get gun deaths to zero. It will not happen. You could significantly reduce them through having more fathers in the home, by having more armed guards in front of schools. We should have a honest and clear reductionist view of gun violence, but we should not have a utopian one."

The use of the phrase “your side” is telling. I don’t have a side.
Society has always been sexualized and racialized. You just didn’t like the truth that society has changed. One “side” didn’t do it on purpose. They simply changed with the times.
The Ukrainian woman was stabbed by a mentally ill schizophrenic man. If he had stabbed an elderly black homeless man instead of a pretty young white woman nobody would’ve even noticed. The only thing that may come from this is it might put mental illness into the spotlight. Judging by the way it’s being politicized I doubt that.
HDGristle is correct when he says that political violence should not be tolerated but acting like Charlie Kirk wasn’t a provocateur that courted anger and hatred is simply naive.

This is not a sides thing. Political violence victimizes all of us and is anathema to our values. Especially if this tragedy is used to create a martyr to push an us vs them agenda.
We all suffer as a result.
Good thoughts and good vibes to his family. I'm sure some assholes will make thier lives more painful and more difficult in their time of grief. I hope not... but those hopes aren't high

It’s 100% “a side thing”.
Left v Right. Lib v Conservative. Globalist v Populist. Call it what you want.
The Ukrainian girl’s murder was racially motivated. They had no interaction, but just a quote that “I’m going to get the white girl” or something to that effect. Reverse the races and commit the same heinous cold blooded murder. Very different reaction by the media, the people, including those on this board.
Charlie was murdered because of the words he spoke.
So yeah there’s sides and it’s naive to think otherwise.

Create a martyr? You mean like George Floyd?
Many on this board saw the aftermath of George as vindicated actions.
Here’s to hoping Charlie’s death isn’t for nothing. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

Hopes and prayers.
Until the next school shooting or political assassination, from the only first world country where this happens so often it’s expected.
Now is not the right time to make changes, right? That would be opportunistic, right?
Hopes and prayers.
Would Charlie Kirk say his life was worth the sacrifice to this gun culture? . Freedom with no responsibility? . What did you expect? Says the only country were this level of gun violence is normal? Is this what the founding fathers had in mind for the 2nd amendment? Is this what the NRA had in mind when they were fighting for guns for self protection and hunting in the 1980’s?
Is this the time to come together to find common ground for the common good? Or is politics in America only about the extremes ( left and right) and everyone run for cover?
Or is it time for
Hope
And
Prayers

Political violence is no bueno and not the way.

Bullshit! If we can’t express our views without nut jobs murdering you we turn into a 3rd world country.
Sad day.

Boy, another case of the gun getting up and firing with no human assistance.
And I'll say it again, some of the same things said is pure hypocrisy.
Validation of the use of assassination because someone says something you dont like is REPULSIVE, and stating that shows your lack of humanity.
It's a sickness, and you confirm it daily.

No one here that I can see is advocating the use of assassins against our political opponents. You are.
What most of the posters are saying is that it’s ironic that someone who preaches hate and racism and antisemitism and more gun freedom is shot at a school campus while answering a question about mass shooters.
