You always bastardize a perfectly good statement. It was correct as it was

Yes they did. They did so because the Republicans refused to consider extending the ACA subsidies. Government shutdowns are a common practice for both sides to get the other party to the negotiating table.

Really, it’s all the democrats fault? What a giant load.

The government shutdown is already the longest in American history. But it’s also perhaps the most punishing, in part because President Trump has taken actions no previous administration ever took during a shutdown.

Over the past six weeks, the Trump administration cut food stamps for millions of low-income Americans. It tried to fire thousands of government workers and withhold back pay from others, while freezing or canceling money for projects in Democratic-led states.

Once upon a time, everyone agreed that you don't negotiate with terrorists. Not anymore. Nowadays Democrats ARE the terrorists.

Great job, Cruella Democrats!!
Calling the opposition party terrorists is akin to claiming that half of Americans are enemies of the state. Something that Trump has said more than once. Describing people as terrorists is nothing more than a justification for the cruelty of the Trump administration towards its own citizens.

Just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t make them terrorists and it certainly isn’t a justification for the cruelty of the Trumpian response to the shutdown.

I can’t verify these numbers but I can put them in perspective.

42 million Americans receive snap benefits.

I guess we should starve 42 million people so that we can shut down less than a percent of possible fraud?

Ya thinks? Tell me - how many shutdowns did the Republicans initiate during the Biden administration? At least 13 Continuing Resolutions were passed (not filibustered) under Biden.

Republicans learned their lesson a long time ago. Shutdowns always backfire on the initiating party. But now you and the Dems want to make them "common practice" again?

Gee, that sounds like a great idea!

Would it make you feel better if I told you Republicans were terrorists when they shut down the federal government in 1995 and 2013?

Some of us have principles, others don't.

Trump’s actions during the shutdown are just like any classic abuser.

Why bother talking to anyone when you can just beat them into submission.

The fact that you think that’s OK is problematic. The fact that you think your principles makes it OK is even worse.

Democrats folded because it became obvious that Trump was willing to hurt the American people without remorse of any kind.

Wow. You always parrot the latest DNC line, dontcha? Even when it is contradictory, unprincipled and a complete distortion of reality.

Democrats folded because they recognized what Republicans knew from prior experience. Shutdowns always backfire on the initiating party.

Trump did the right thing. You don't negotiate with a gun pointed to your head. The only "abusers" were the Democrats, who stupidly put the country through the wringer trying to beat everyone into submission.

When it comes to shutdowns, do you even HAVE any principles? Or do you just follow the party line, calling it a crime when Republicans do it, but insisting it's a virtue when Dems hold the entire federal government hostage to their demands?

It’s a virtue when trying to make a deal and to compromise with the other party. Republicans don’t want to compromise with anyone. And I’m not wrong when I say that Trump would rather hurt the American people than look like he compromised or made a deal with anyone.

Republicans said the same fucking thing when they shut down the government in 1995 and 2013! We're the good guys, it's the other side that refuses to compromise, forcing us to adopt these scorched-earth tactics!

Sorry, txdot. Dems don't have a monopoly on virtue, and neither do the Republicans. Anytime you (or they) shut the government down in pursuit of policy demands, you're no better than a hostage-taking terrorist.

Question

Scorched earth is a choice, not a forced position. AdoptAing a "terrorism" stance on negotiations is also a choice. Just as the decisions on prioritization of existing funds are choices.

The party in power showed little regard for the people, let alone good faith negotiations or productive discussion. Which the majority of the people have seen and assigned blame accordingly. Trump and the GOP got the lionshare of it regardless of how you want to argue otherwise

Here's 3 songs that describe the GOP positions here
