Yes. And wtf?

And we're not talking about Cameron, or Obama.

But you are.

This is about Trump and MBS.

But you knew that.

#6 - Respect the topics presented by those who start a thread. Attempts to derail a thread or change it's direction is referred to as thread hijack and will be discouraged. Attempts to guide a thread in the right direction are appreciated, while responses to posts which hijack a thread are not.

Despite your and Bio's objections my analogy applies. It would've been better if you answered honestly, but we'll move past that.

The plain facts are that for the foreseeable future the Saudi's are going to be an indispensable trading partner with a lot of leverage. That means we need to curry favor with them and you don't do that by allowing the media to (deservedly) savage their leader in a public forum for the world to see. MBS is a scumbag but he's the scumbag we're saddled with. Period.

Joe Biden tried playing tough with the Saudis (yeah, I'm gonna talk about Joe Biden) and how did that work out? Great! Until he needed the Saudis to help bring oil prices down. That's why he went to Jeddah and reset relations with them and MBS in 2022. CNN said as much back then.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/16/polit...trip-takeaways

Trump isn't resetting with MBS. Biden already did that, thus the "off topic" fist bump video.

And what did Joe get for his trouble? Absolutely nothing. The Saudis refused to do anything to help bring prices down. So Joe pulled the oil out of our strategic reserves to increase supply and drive prices down. So the American tax payer footed the bill, right? That's the kind of results you get from ostracizing crucial trade partners.
That's the kind of thing Trump avoids by protecting MBS in a situation like the one in question. MBS is a despicable character but we're stuck with him. To think otherwise is pollyannaish. (apologies to Rooster)

So, ultimately your ire at Trump is misdirected at best. It's Biden who brought the guy back into the fold. And this is simply another TDS driven thread that should've been in the Sandbox all along. Your whining about being off topic is nothing but a dodge. It's called compare and contrast.

You are arguing hypotheticals, not the topic.

Trump has kissed the Saudi’s’ asses since day one.

He has millions if not billions invested there. That’s all it takes for a good pucker to the pooper.

This thread is about Trump’s rude and abusive behavior in a press conference. Not TDS, whatever the fuck that is.

Start your own thread.

Nothing I wrote in post # 48 is hypothetical.

Any goodwill we have with the Saudi’s is bought and paid for. Same for the other allies we have in the region.

Duc is correct that we have to be friendly with MBS. That doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to fete him at the White House.

The inability of the Trump administration to anticipate and deal with the issue of the brutal assassination of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi is just another example of their incompetence.

Trump is a giant egomaniac who wanted to promote his “deal” with the Saudi’s. That’s why MBS was invited to the White House in the first place. It would have been a better idea to announce the deal in Saudi Arabia where the Press could have been excluded and a simple press release would have sufficed instead.

“Reporters also raised questions about the killing of Khashoggi, which MBS referred to as a mistake.”. I believe this statement is true. MBS does see the killing of Khashoggi as a mistake. Not that he approved it but rather that he was caught doing it. I think he now feels that the worldwide media outrage and diplomatic fallout were so detrimental that they didn’t justify the killing in the first place.

If anyone is interested here is an article on the deal from military.com.
