Default Concerns with Moderator Dr-epg?

I've been posting on the NM forum for almost six years and I've never had any issues with moderators. However I have recently been having some difficulty with Dr-epg and come to find out that I don’t seem to be the only one.

I realize that serving as a moderator probably isn't a paid job, but not sure that it requires an authoritarian.

Is anyone aware of a process to appeal or report decisions made by a moderator? Just a second set of eyes? I'd love to hear opinions from my fellow mongers on whether this is an overreaction or simply just oversight.

Perhaps you guys remember I used to be the former mod here.

As for appeals, send a PM to Doc explaining why you think you should not have received an infractions or warning. He might respond specifically stating what/why/etc more in depth.

However, first, I suggest you refresh yourself about the guidelines for this board.
https://www.eccie.net/announcement.php?f=5
You will most likely find that although the warning or infraction system auto response might not be specifically clear, if you read the various guidelines (the entire paragraph for each), you will most likely conclude that you did deserve what you received.

To close, frankly, Doc is a bit lighter on issuing infractions than I ever was.
As for staff not issuing an infraction for something similar previously, just consider yourselves lucky it was missed.

Tbh Unique, I always considered you to be mostly fair and I never had an issue with you, but I've heard from three other folks that feel like Doc might be more authoritarian. I've never had an issue with mods, so not sure why there seems to be a disconnect now. I'm always open to working things out, but I feel like the value I bring the board isn't really "valued" as much anymore. Just my two cents.

Marcham17 ,I agree with you 100% on each of the points you are making.
I was also "victimized" by Dr-Epg's arbitrary, capricious and subjective interpretation of the contents in the ROS of my last review. He has cited "Insufficient ROS Details" even though I discussed rimming in the ROS. The experience was such an unpleasant waste of my time, I have not written another review since.

My only issue is when they say you are missing info on a review and you DM them with the info requested and they don't respond.

I appreciate the examples that Unique posted. My concern is that more than a few folks are feeling frustrated to the point they are reluctant to post reviews going forward. I realize the NM board probably isn't the biggest, but there's definitely a group of reliable mongers who routinely share info on the boards (myself included).

marcham17,

Your request for a review the Dr-epg's actions was received by the Moderator and passed to Me.

I am the Administrator for Eccie and the final say in all "appeals" when it comes to Staff Actions.

I have reviewed the Threads where you have a difference of opinion with the Staff Member.

My review finds that the Staff Member complied with the requirements and expectations established by the Owners for Staff Members.

Normally, I would have preferred to share this information with you directly by PM.

However, since you insist on discussing this matter in the Open Forum, I felt it prudent to share the results of my review of your request for an appeal in the same manner.

While you may also disagree with my determination in this matter, we must agree to disagree.

Biomed ... thank you for the review and reply ... I posted publicly not out of disrespect, but to keep things open and honest for others on the board. I agree to disagree and hope everyone has a very safe and happy holiday season!

Had to look up what SMDH meant, but I am there with you TBone. Geez, here's the thing. On the NM site things were a free for all for way too long. Thanks to whatever moderator or moderators that finally tossed some bad players out. But on the negative side, looking at the commentors on this string you have some very valuable and reliable contributors who are telling you in a constructive way something needs to be handled a bit differently. ECCIE should try to encourage, not discourage valuable contributors from participating. None of us like criticism, but rather than putting up a defensive wall, and appearing butt-hurt, perhaps put your ECCIE heads together, still follow your guidelines, but change your approach to make this site better. Frankly I was more or less neutral on the original issue, but the ECCIE responses (pissed me off) sure illustrate something that needs to be improved in your organizational model. I may not always agree with all the opinions of contributors who are on this string, but they make this site work. Encourage these guys, don't fire off responses that effectively run us off.
