Seems to me there must be a few good graduated college kickers bouncing around.
Is it legal to pay one of them to fill in during the playoffs? Probably a Union issue?

No you can sign them if not on a team or on someones practice squad.
If you sign a practice squad player, you have to put him on your active roster.

Buffalo has signed Matt Wright on Jan 6th to practice squad as a backup kicker. He was waived by the Houston Texans Nov 11, 2025.

Cut off for adding players to teams before the postseason rules for adding players is today, Jan 7th.

This is a good depth chart move due to anyone else that's decent not being available.

Smart move by management. So many games come down to one field goal or extra point.
You can not go into a playoff game with no healthy kicker!
