I've read two biographies on Trump's pre-presidential days and have been business partners with two people who are like Trump. Based on that here's my take.
There are two ways to succeed in business.
1. Develop good relationships. You treat your customers, suppliers, bankers and investors like you'd want to be treated. You make them want to work with you.
2. Take no prisoners. You gouge said customers, suppliers, bankers and investors. That increases your profits, but you have to find new customers, suppliers, bankers and investors after you burn the old ones.
Trump has practiced "2". Trump's formative years in business were spent negotiating with New York cement companies and taking advice from Roy Cohn. He's just applying lessons from being a successful "Type 2" businessman to the world stage, in trying to acquire Greenland.
And it's about his legacy too. From today's NYT,
In an interview with The New York Times this month, he framed it in terms of personal desire. Asked why ownership was important instead of just fortifying Greenland, he said, “Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success.” Asked if he meant psychologically important for himself or psychologically important for the country, he said, “Psychologically important for me.”
“I said, ‘Why don’t we have that?’” he explained in a 2021 interview for the book “The Divider” about his first term. “You take a look at a map. I’m a real estate developer, I look at a corner, I say, ‘I’ve got to get that store for the building that I’m building,’ etc. It’s not that different. I love maps. And I always said: ‘Look at the size of this. It’s massive. That should be part of the United States.’”

Here's an analogy. In this story, Donald Trump is Elon Musk, I'm Denmark, and the sugarbaby is Greenland.
I've got a sugarbaby. She's hot as hell. Elon Musk wants the same gal. But she's "in love" with me. So Elon's got two choices. He can send his goons around and threaten to beat the hell out of me if I don't give her up. Or he can offer her a Ferrari, a credit card with a $100,000/month limit and a 3 bedroom condo in downtown Austin. Which is chump change for Elon.
Elon decides he's going to send the goons around, then make the offer to the girl. This is what Trump is doing. You or I would have hit her up with the car, the card and the condo. But we're "Type 1" businessmen and Trump's a Type 2.

It's related.
Trump NATO claims
Quote:
"No single person, or President, has done more for NATO than President Donald J. Trump," the president wrote on his Truth Social platform. "If I didn't come along, there would be no NATO right now!!!"
"It would have been in the ash heap of History," Trump added. "Sad, but TRUE!!!"
|
Interesting that most European country's contributions to NATO were rising before Trump took office in 2025...and US contributions were dropping.

Paraphrasing Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's remarks to Fox News.
'We (Trump) would only invade Greenland to keep someone else from invading Greenland'

I've always had a respect for those that held the office in the past. Regardless if I liked the way they guide the country or not. I could respect them.
trump is the first potus that I will not have respect for. There are some things I do like about him but the baggage he has attached to him has tarnished that shit to where I can't see it anymore.
And he's gonna end up like his buddy.
I'd like people here to show us how well respected his buddy Cohn is. Guy is totally reprehensible. Good riddance to him. And donny is on the same path as his idol.

The last POTUS I respected was Clinton during his 2nd term. And I had no respect for him during his first.
Trump is however the first president who's more entertaining than "Seinfeld" or "Big Bang Theory." Who would have thought, we may take over Greenland and Canada!
I'll let you in on a secret. We're living through a sitcom, not a drama. Trump's bluffing, he won't invade either. But they don't know that.

but he surprised everyone taking out Maduro. gave a new meaning to pursuing "regime change". usually that's an abstract concept..
Canada? no. Greenland? maybe..
i bet he could pull the whole op off with nothing more than special forces in under 24 hours. prolly Rangers would be my guess.

I wish that was so.
He is the greatest TACO of all time.
Be a buffoon with your friends. Your family. But don't involve others. Especially at this time. His greed and ego are the only paramount things he shows any care for.
And the reason I will have no respect for him is that if I was to do the same things he did, i'd be in jail. I don't care about smarts, money, or lawyers. That office people are suppose to be held to a higher standard. His petty grifting ways leaves a shit stain in that office.

Gentlemen: I feel like someone who threw raw meat (tenderloin) into a pen with several pit bulls. And the pit bulls (you) are sitting in a corner eating Purina Dog Chow. OK, I'll repeat,
In an interview with The New York Times this month, he (Trump) framed it in terms of personal desire.

About the second part, please note that there's map projection distortion at northerly latitudes. Greenland looks like it's as big as Africa. But it's really about the size of Saudi Arabia.

^^but we know Trump has size issues. his hands are just so. damn. tiny..
(by the way Tiny, i always guessed your handle was tongue in cheek. you prolly started at offensive guard and your teammates called you "Tiny" cause you were the biggest dude on the field..)
best description i've heard of Greenland is 1.5x the size of Alaska. in other words, absolutely. supermassive. monster. of. the. northern. hemisphere..
it gives Trump wet dreams..
which is a problem..

What is the most frustrating is that few reports on the whole history of Greenland and how the United States has been working to get it for over 100 years and quite a few Presidents.
The other thing that isn't get mentioned is China setting up I think mining, but at least some business arrangement with Greenland that is close enough to U.S. base to limit activities the base can do.
The bottom line is that today's journalists really are not telling as truthful facts and all the facts to make proper judgements. There are a few journalists that do give some historical content, but they are hard to find and source reliably.

More like it was about 100 years ago...not 'for over 100 years'
IIRC, last effort was Truman in 1946. There were some 1955 discussions with Eisenhower, but no offer.

Is anybody watching Trump’s speech at Davos? Why’s he upset about Iceland? He appears to have taken military force off the table.

First highlights
...inflation has been defeated...citing inflation of 1.6% over the past three months...
Odd. Seems more authoritative sources put it at 2.7% (and no official data for Oct25/Nov25 due to gov't shutdown.

He still can't find 'windmills' in China.
Quote:

China makes almost all of the windmills, and yet I haven’t been able to find any wind farms in China. Did you ever think of that? It’s a good way of looking at it. They’re smart, China’s very smart. They make them, they sell them for a fortune. They sell them to the stupid people that buy them. But they don’t use them themselves. They put up a couple of big wind farms, but they don’t use them. They just put them up to show people what they could look like. They don’t spin, they don’t do anything.
