I’m going to my first home opener in about 20 years. Bottom Line Bob put a little effort(money) into his team this offseason so I’ll keep an open mind.

BREAKING: The Pirates are signing Konnor Griffin, @MLBPipeline's No. 1 prospect, to an 9-year, $140 million extension per @Buster_ESPN

Konnor Griffin gets a nine-year, $140 million deal from the Pirates. That shatters the record for largest contract before making an MLB debut

That puts their payroll over 120 million this year. Where it should be.

Pirates take the Home Opener. Connor Griffin is the real deal. A missle rbi double in his first AB and scored on a single. Keller was solid and Soto closed it out.

... They look to be right in the mix this season-meet.

Got some new and better additions who can play AND hit the ball. ...

Hoping Henry Davis gets it together at the plate. That would be key if he did

Looks like he’s hitting better than last year. But that’s not saying much. He’s made himself one of the best defensive catchers in MLB. If he can hit around 250 that would be great.

Bob Nutting has proven once again that he's one of the smartest owners in professional sports.
How?
Give me a minute.

Dennis Santana on today's crowd:

“I’ve been here for three years and I’ve played here plenty before that. I’ve never seen the park like it was today. It was fucking crazy.”

The Pirates may have drafted the best player in 3 straight drafts.

Seth Hernandez - 3 IP, 8k, 1 ER in his minor league debut.

A ridiculous 18 whiffs on 24 swings.

Didn’t the Pirates just sell half of the downtown real estate in PGH on a 19 year old who hadn’t appeared in a single game?

Why not Skenes?

I know you’re not quick on the uptick but I’ll splain it to you. Griffin is 19yrs old. He’s been labeled as the SS version of Willie Mays. It was on display yesterday. Signing him to 15 million per year is a bargain in today’s baseball. Skenes on the other hand, is 23yrs old. He pitches every 5th day and will command 3X what Griffin signed for. Besides, the Pirates have Chandler and Hernandez. They throw HARDER than Skenes. The Pirates can’t afford Skenes going forward. But they locked up Griffin. Run along now.

A good sign

Oneil Cruz against LHP so far this season:

• 6-8, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 1 SO
• .750/.750/1.500
• 2.250 OPS

Obviously a small sample size, but already a significant improvement (11 hits and 1 HR against LHP in all of 2025)
