Ha Ha ... I remember Bubble Puppy... thought they were gonna be pretty big..

Derek and the Dominoes... well, that's Eric Clapton and some of his buds... including Duane Allman who plays most of the guitar stuff on that tune.

How about... Strawberry Alarm Clock with their hit... Incense and Peppermints.. !

"Layla" a one-hit wonder? Really? That whole damn album is classic and essential. "Bell-Bottom Blues," "Have You Ever Loved a Woman," "Key to the Highway," and that's just for starters. With a true one-hit wonder, you'd rarely want their whole album in your collection. I'm not even a big Clapton fan, but I can appreciate that piece of work.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah..."Timothy," by The Buoys. Bouncy little song about cannabalism, written by Rupert "The Pina Colada Song" Holmes, of all people!

Well, I said it was a stretch...

I took "hit" to mean listed on the Billboard charts. I actually went to a Billboard book I have to look it up. But, could always be wrong... Lots of great songs I like were never "hits". But, I take your point.

I still would argue that it is possibly the greatest song that was the only listed hit by a specific named band.

A bit of a tongue-in-cheek post, anyway. It is a good-natured discussion, right?

Edison Lighthouse...Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr6H1a7YUac

This one gets my vote for two reasons. This song was playing on the radio when I wrecked my new Monte Carlo. Then many years later it was a radio trivia question to win concert tickets. It was an easy one for me to remember. Too bad I couldn't get in!

Strawberry Alarm Clock actually had two hits. The second was a song called "Tomorrow"...they did a lip syched version on Rowan and Martins Laugh In.

Sorry but Chris de Burgh also rocked MTV quite heavily with "Don't Pay the Ferryman" He doesn't qualify for a one hit wonder. World wide he has numerous hits but Don't Pay the Ferryman reached #34 most likely from the MTV video

Everytime I hear "My Sharona" I think of the stupid commercials for Barona Casino in San Diego played to the same tune. Pull your hair out.

The Vapors sang Turning Japanese.

My choices:

Major Tom - Peter Schilling
Whip It - Devo

And the best one.....

Baby Got Back - Sir Mix Alot

The Knack had a second hit, "Good Girls Don't . . . (But I Do)". Disqualified.

My vote would be either Norman Greenbaum "Spirit in the Sky", Blues Image "Ride Captain, Ride", Or The Divinyls "I Touch Myself".

"Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed. Hard to believe it was his only hit.
