Just a few questions, about men, that I ponder every now and then. I would love to hear what you think!!

Dawn-your questions are as lovely and wonderfully provocative as your avatar! I certainly would have thought you'd know the answers, having come across (pun intended) as many varied men as you might. Here's why...

On weights v cardio. Women at a crowded bar aren't wondering what our resting heart rate is as they stare at our broad chest, shoulders and arms. First impressions rule-and to that extent, women are as visual as men.

Not go to the doctor? Well-all things being equal, if the problem concerns us enough, we will. If it's a tingling and numbness in my arm and I've ruled out a heart attack-I'll research the shit out of it, and decide I have a vitamin deficiency. Two weeks later, after taking a supplement-I was right. On the other hand-noticed one instance of blood in my semen-and I was at the doctor's office within the hour. I was sure it was a sign of the apocalypse!

Not talk to their friends more often? Men have far more acquaintances than they do friends. And you don't share as often or deeply with them as you do friends. For instance-I venture to say, not MANY guys on here are so proud of their ECCIE accomplishments that they share them. Thus-we segment and compartmentalize an already fractured personality. It's neither right nor wrong-it just "is."

Like to barbeque? Well its the pursuit of the best BBQ. Up "your way"-the men cookout. Down here they barbeque. It's a social thing that gives men something to do with other men while they determine whether they're surrounded by friends or acquaintances.

Watch football. See above re: BBQ.

Cardio saps strength. I do a powerlifter style workout. Low reps, compound movements, heavy wieght is what makes and maintains strength. That being said, i'm trying to get myself to do cardio now. I'm not in my 20s anymore and need to start losing some fat. and It would be nice to be able to see my old sixpack instead of my current keg. lol

Doctors - Men think that they can fix everything themselves and they don't need another man to tell them they are sick, just a waste of time.
Friends - Men like to be alone and have their space, even friends can impose on that.
BBQ - The process takes time, so men can go outside and get away from the stresses of family, etc, with a good excuse.
Football - I'd rather play sports than watch, but this goes back to getting away from reality and stress, most guys watch just to feel an escape if only for a few hours. Some are just die-hard fans, etc.

I'm not sure. I agree that it's stupid. Maybe cardio is seen as feminine (it's hard to look masculine on an elliptical). Most women make the other mistake. Plenty of cardio, but no weights, leaving them a bit frail looking. I always do both. Cardio is the best way to lose weight and lifting builds the muscle. I guess the best correlation is that cardio prepares the canvas and the weights paint the masterpiece.

Some men fear losing control. When you go to a doctor, you relinquish all of it. We know in the back of our minds that he really knows his shit, so whatever he diagnoses is really there. If you never go, you can convince yourself that you are as healthy as you like.

Women like big arms around them not how many miles we can run. On that note all my sports I did/do are not big muscle sports. That must be my problem. But hey us soccer players can do it for 90 minutes and swimmers do it underwater.
