It seems that the state does have similar laws to Texas that you need to notify of any allegations of child abuse.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I was listening to Mike & Mike this morning and one of the guys had a good point, this is not somethign you just sort of explain away with a "we were all fooled" quote. Paterno should probably come out and give a better explanation of what happened or at least what he knew was going on.

I don't think the pass it up stairs is going to be enough with this type of situation. Like if it was an allegation of payment to players or some crap like that, sure, saying you passed it upstairs is probably enough. However, someone tells you that your one of your assistants is molesting children, you tell someone upstairs, but if nothing happens, what did you do? Did you ask what actions were going to be taken or contact the authorities, etc.

A better explanation is needed. Hate to have this sort of blemish on a legendary career.

I think lots of us share that thought Gipper.

Interesting that KSAT ask the following question this morning with results reported on their noon news.

Should Joe Paterno re-sign at Penn State?

YES - 52%
NO - 48%

I read an article that said that there were very credible and graphic eyewitness accounts from two janitors in the training facility in 1998.

Sandusky left in 1999. Relatively young. At the top of his game.

Who knows who knew what and when, but I have to say, I have loved Joe since I was a tyke and he was working for Rip Engle.

One of the highlights of my life was was when I was 15 and heard him speak at a sports banquet when he was in my town recruiting Dan Natale.

I have a pair of baggy khakis with the blue nittany lions on them just like Joe wore in the 70's.

No one is perfect, but some things are just black and white wrong. I hope Joe did the right thing when he needed to.

Its never good when the PA State Police Commissioner is announcing that someone is "not a target at this point".

I think we will be seeing some big changes very soon. Before the Nebraska game. Things we havent seen since the early days of the LBJ administration.

Flinde, I don't think there is any way Coach Paterno is going to escape this thing. It seems to get worse by the hour. Just a horrible, horrible story.

According to current Pennsylvania law, he was required to report it, in writing. If this law was in affect back then, who knows.

Did Paterno do the right thing..... back then, probably, as that was standard operating procedure. Did he ever follow up on it? I am sure he regrets it now.

If it happened today, you need to go directly to the police so there can be no coverup.

Does Paterno deserve this scar on his record, no.

The prosecutor (Attorney General of PA) has made the grand jury presentment available online. I was only able to read through 20 of the 23 pages before I had to quit in anger and disgust.

I'm not going to post a link here, because, frankly, its too disgusting and this is co-ed, and we (and Eccie) are way better than that. IM if you want the link or use Google.

Joe needs to go. The stuff was pretty common knowledge in 1998 (University police investigation and state agency investigation, Centre County DA that declined prosecution). 2002 was eyeball witness round three. At least round three.

Joe needs to go. Recruiting is probably ruined for a couple generations--25-30 years even with coaching and management all tossed to curb. Feel sorry for the young athletes as well as victims.

I'm still laughing about Woody Hayes in the 1978 Gatorbowl. I remember it like it was one of Saturday's games. But no one is ever gonna laugh here.

I'm sure the fifth generation of the Suhey family will play somewhere else.

a Letter to the Editor in my hometown newspaper which just happens to be where Sandusky was born and raised:

".....Time for Joe to step down. He knew. All of them knew and turned their heads. This is a disgrace and Penn State will suffer for many years trying to rebuild an image that has been shattered by perverts and power. I hope the alumni cuts them off at the knees. Donations run freely from former graduates who love their university. They have been stabbed in their backs....."

And may I add my own personal thoughts:

To me =====> Mr. Sandusky is both a genius and a narcissist, which makes him the perfect predator. At no time was his narcissim more apparent then when he titled his book "Touched". I guarantee this coward will "off" himself, before he ever spends a day with the general prison population. I, for one, would like to see him spend the rest of his life locked up with the general prison population; then, perhaps he can write the sequel entitled "Touched II: Predator Becomes Prey".

You may get your wish, Dennisrn. I have learned in my extensive psychiatric training (3 crazy ex-wives) that narcissists rarely intentionally off themselves. It does happen by accident sometimes when the narcissist seeks attention by feigning a suicide attempt.

I hope that Sandusky is clumsy and accident prone.

Gonna be an interesting regular Tuesday before a Nebraska game routine press conference.

Longhorn fan here.........but I always liked Penn state and their football progrjam. Joe passed the info on, and the the higher ups probably told him "don't worry, we will handle it now".

Regular game week 11:30 (our time) press conference cancelled a few minutes ago.

Joe needs to step up, say I'm sorry I didnt do more to stop this. I apologize to the victims. Its time for me to leave. Anything less, his legacy is toast. Scott Paterno is not a rocket scientist but he knows this.

For the program, all the good that has been accomplished, and Joe's legacy, I hope/pray that this is what happens at a rescheduled press conference. Anything less is beneath Paterno.

Have to agree with you Flinde, time for Joe to say goodbye, rest of the season is a sidenote at this point. His legacy as a coach means nothing, if he doesn't do the right thing.

Not sure if this violates any board rules, so if it does, mods please delete it. However, I found it horribly ironic that this sicko wrote a book entitled "Touched: The Jerry Sandusky Story." Here's a link to Amazon if you don't believe me. With victim 9 coming forward now, I think it's pretty clear something happened.
