In the hobby world, mine run 3 hrs. It's not complicated, but it's very important to screen, screen, screen and also offer the fluffers the opportunity to decline someone or do a separate screening. They key is offering it at a time when guys can come during a late lunch or get off work early. I usually host mine from 2pm-5pm. Not all guys will stay the entire time, some will come early and some will come late, which is why having a non-participant there (male or female) to monitor the door is key, because if you're doing it right - all the participants will be occupied or entertained the entire time. In the hobby world, the members only know each other from the boards and I always let them decide whether or not they want to introduce themselves with their handle or a made up name. You have to have thick skin when you do them, because when you start advertising it on the board providers and hobbyists alike will have some pretty nasty things to say about it publicly, but those same people will also PM you for an invite LOL. In the civie world, they can be people who know each other or strangers.

LOL well I can't speak for others who promote, organizes, or participates in gbs, but I am a self-proclaimed slut  I like anything new or different. Unlike others, but perhaps like some on this board, this is my outlet to have fun, not my job. Outside of gbs and other varying events that I put on, I am VERY low volume. You are right that there is no romance in a gb and you have to REALLY like what you do in order to host one.
