Default Verizon Outrage

Verizon Wireless has just announced that it will charge its customers $2 each time for the privilege of paying bills online or by phone using a credit or debit card. The public outcry has been fast and furious.

Companies don't seem to realize that, while people might grudgingly accept being gouged (e.g., $25 airline checked luggage fee, $35 bank overdraft fee), they absolutely resent being nickel-and-dimed (e.g., Bank of America's proposed $5 monthly fee for debit card use).

It will be interesting to see whether Verizon Wireless has the courage to stick to its guns.

Yah but, the b of a situation had more exposure because the democrats had to jump on the class warfare agenda.private companys are now subject to politicians holding press conferences on the tax payers dime to bash private companys to further an agenda that have to cover their tracks of their failed housing policies. And abc news is a willing partner in the destruction of the private sector and the Obama HUSSEIN class warfare bunk. it was the new regulations imposed on bof a that led them to having to raise fees to cover their losses from the intervention of government goons.you have politicians with salaries and benefits eclipsing 300k per year putting restrictions on business and the business is naturally going to raise fees on consumers, they have no choice, they maust operate under their business budgets.the Obama Hussein democrat controlled congress has not passed a budget yet .http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics...-of-that-bank/

NEW YORK (AP) — Verizon Wireless, the country's largest cellphone company, is introducing a $2 fee for every payment subscribers make over the phone or online with their credit cards.
The company says this "convenience fee" will be introduced Jan. 15.
The fee won't apply to electronic check payments or to automatic credit card payments set up through Verizon's AutoPay system. Paying by credit card in a Verizon store will also be free, as will mailing a check.
Other carriers have tried to get subscribers to move to automatic payments through other means. AT&T Inc. offers a $10 gift card for those who set up AutoPay. Sprint Nextel Corp. charges subscribers who have caps on the fees they can rack up each month. Those people are charged $5 monthly unless they set up autopay.

but I do not want to auto pay

Paying a fee to pay your bill, the next thing you know will be them charging you a fee to find out how much you owe!

I held out for years, but I finally started paying all my bills through my banks online service, so I won't be charged with this fee.
If you haven't tried it yet, look into it.
My bank does it for free and it saves me a ton of time writing checks, looking for stamps and mailing payments by snail mail.
But I still get to decide when and if bills get paid, just as if I wrote a check.

Don't forget, they may charge a fee to open the envelope you send your payment in.

riday, if Verizon does not back down, I will use my bank's online payment too.

But I feel so much better already - now that I know who the real culprit is:

Me too, but I use my credit card instead when it is accepted - I'm cheap and love the credit card's grace period and cash rebate.

try straight talk or page plus, both are no contract "2nd tier" verizon service's. most phones can be flashed to either one for a nominal fee. I have a droid flashed to straight talk, no contract, 45 bucks a month, perfect service and full use of all apps.

Just an f.y.i., great service w no b.s. and no extras.
