			Mike,
We actually do talk about STDs all of the time around here. ABout 80% of the talk is just BS with no good information. ANother 19.5% consist of stats we pull out of our ass that have no real data to back them up. And maybe less than 0.5% (that is 0.005 in decimal) actually have any real data to back them up. (And yes, I made those stats us while typing this.)

There are risks. By use of condoms, we hopefully reduce that risk. I would say in the past, the population of sites like this were a cut above the rest of the escort/john world. Lot of professional guys, ladies who catered to that niche. As such, the players had better access to medical information and services, had reasons to worry about their health and would take necessary precautions.

In recent days/weeks/months/years, the availability of access to the internet, especially I guess with smart phones, has allowed this internet escort industry to creep (perhaps it was a dash) from a niche market to encompassing a much large portion of the population. The new players in this market often are less sophisticated than the earlier players. The bad news is they may be more likely to engage in other sidelines that increase their risks, they may have less access to medical care, they may be more desperate, and thus more willing to engage in higher risk behaviors (BBFS, for instance).

At the same time, there are a lot of players (usually the johns) who will cross the imaginary lines drawn between the former streetwalker class of providers and the higher end "escorts" and thus can transfer stds acorss the different classes of providers. At the same time, the lower priced providers exert a market pressure on the higher priced providers to provide lower price services, and perhaps to engage in riskier behaviors in order to maintain their cash flow required under their business plans.

With the anonymity of the internet, johns can also have multiple identities that allows them to see different classes of providers without the providers realizing the risks that certain johns pose from their riskier behaviors.

Obviously, we must blame Al Gore for this, since it was his vision of the World Wide Web and his desire to give it to the masses that has created this dilemma in our little perverted world.

Mike, just to bust your chops a little bit: didn't you have this topic covered in 6th grade health class? Do you really need someone to tell you how to prevent an STD?

This will probably bring out the drama kings and we will go down the BBFS road for the 1,000th time. Dude, just do what you know to do; and you will be just fine.

Mike, the question is not the least bit offensive. Everyone who plays here accepts that there will always be an element of risk. Just find your comfort level and take whatever steps you feel necessary to stay there. Play safe, but play.

There are certain topics that you will never get a true answer. Who is going to admit they got an STD here? Nobody, not even BBL. And his reputation is about as low as it gets but even he would not admit. Use condoms. They are proven to be effective. Especially here in a sub population which is clearly at higher risk.

Being new to the hobby I'm anxious about this as well. If anything I'd love to know the stats. But you seem a bit too worried...I'd suggest not getting into the hobby if you are worried.

"The U.S. Department of Health consistently reports that lone 3-5% of the sexually transmitted disease in this country is related to prostitution (compared with 30-35% among teenagers). There is no statistical indication surrounded by the U.S. that prostitutes are vectors of HIV. Although a small percentage of prostitutes may be HIV positive, William Darrow, CDC AIDS epidemiology official, cites no proven cases of HIV transmission from prostitutes to clients.Quote:

(- Lambert, Bruce, AIDS in Prostitutes, Not as Prevalent as Believed, Studies Find; (New York Times, September 20, 1988). Numerous sources in the U.S. confirm the fact that prostitutes do not spread AIDS. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report, 1993;5(no. 3)pp. 7, 11, 17.

Note that the quoted studies are from 1988 and 1993, so the HIV statistic is quite probably not accurate anymore. However, the statistic concerning STD rates between sex workers and teenagers is likely spot on. How many teenagers are adamant about wearing condoms?

I would not trust those stats. How many ladies going for treatment for STD's are going to admit to being prostitutes? That percentage 3-5% is probably under reported.

True dat. A followup with the survivors fro the first GRID study some years later exposed that most of the participants had lied about having unprotected anal sex.

I honestly think teenagers are a higher 'risk group' than us, give that a lot of them don't even bother with a condom these days.
