How about a great chili mix that you can use to make your own? I was down in Fredricksburg a few years ago and they had these little booths that people set up to sell stuff. Some lady there had this chili that just blew me away. I bought 2 packets of the mix to make at home and it turned out just as good. Stupid me though I threw away the packet and can't remember what it was called now.

That's because chili makin' is an art here in Texas. You don't get good chili in a can. Podnah.
Think jalapenos, habaneros (floated for mild, squeezed for hot, chopped for the real heat lover), and sometimes chocolate. The right spices (Pendery's in Ft. Worth has a classic selection & is worth the drive).
You get the idea. Chili isn't a restaurant dish, it's a religious experience.

Actually they do make pretty good chili...all you have to do is ask for it.

It is pretty hard for me to eat store bought chili unless it is for slop Frito Pie or something like that.
My latest kick is experimenting with the flavors on my seafood pozole. Orange Roughy, Shrimp (or Crawfish, Scallops, mix, etc.) Bacon, Red Peppers, Red Onions, White Hominy, Habaneros. Mix in some beer and working with the spices to get the perfect mix.

+1 to what the manwhore aka surfindick said. It's called "Chili's Terlingua Chili"" and it's pretty darned good stuff.
There's a kit you can buy at the grocery store, not sure of the brand but it comes in a red box, and you can get it in "two alarm" or "four alarm". All the spices are in individual packets, including the red pepper, so you can make it as hot or mild as you'd like. Also includes masa, and it sets it off. Serve with jiffy corn muffins (OMG SO GOOOOOOD) I make mine with ground turkey (can't tell the difference) and a small package of stew meat. Brown it up really well, first (brown food tastes good!) and then put it in the crock pot and leave it be for the rest of the day. When you come back, you'll have a pot of love.
Traveling Man: Try Canton's first Monday trade days. I went a couple months ago and they have some really good chili vendors there. You'll probably find a ton of other mixes if you are anything like me at Canton! I bought about five different soup mixes from All Of Us Old Plantation Soups, I suggest the Chicken Enchilada or Aunt Hattie's Vegetable Beef, but you cannot go wrong, they are all incredible and you can order online. I bought some of Little Tug's Blue Ribbon Chili Mix and it was really good, too.

You're thinking about Wick Fowler's 2 Alarm Chili. That little kit makes a very good chili, especially if you use venison instead of beef. I'm with Tara in that I too like Wolf Brand Chili. It is by far the best canned chili. I tried Hormel chili once and it was bad, really bad.

Depends on the day. Either way, you're good by me sweetie! You may have everyone else fooled...but not me! You are the sweetest slut I know.
Behave or I will make you take me to Chili's for an El Presidente and a cup of chili...this thread has me hungry for some.

i make a good chili... i guess.. i usually dont go out and buy chili when I make a pretty good one.. I like the taste of the Wendy's one if im feeling lazy.. Mineis hot as heck too.. you can always cut down the amount of chili powders by half to make it edible to the wimps...
i use the following
1lb sirlion steak cubed
1lb italian sausage
3 cloves garlic
1 large sweet onion
3 large tomatos
can small tomato paste
Can Red beans
Can white beans
1tlbs cayenne
1tlbs chili powder
1tlbs paprika
1tlbs ancho chili powder
1tlbs cumin powder
1/2 tlbs salt
cook meat halfway... cook onions and garlic then throw in all the rest... simmer on low for about an hour... and its ready... its probably even hotter the second day...
