Kauai is amazing. Ya know, practically every flick or TV show depicting a jungle has been filmed there, from "South Pacific" to "Jurassic Park," "Gilligan's Island" to "Lost."

Okay, I'll say it; I'm a chunky gal, and it has NEVER occurred to me to wear a bikini. Would look too much like 2 rubber bands on a hard boiled egg. WHY do some women wear swimsuits that are obviously not suited to their figures?

Yes, I know about all the movies shot there. My original motivation to visit the island was the falls in Jurrasic Park. Pulled it up on the net, found they were on Kauai, and then started studying the island.
Those falls (Manawaiopuna falls), are 10 minutes by helicopter back into the rain forest. Beautiful place...

I took the "Hollywood" tour on Kauai and saw the falls, too. Just a beautiful place, the whole chain of Eden-like mountains jutting from the sea, born of Pele. Have been to The Big Island and Oahu, as well. Hoping someday to return, possibly see Maui. I have a hibiscus flower tattoo on my thigh, an original design by a kanaka maoli who had tribal makings over 90% of his body. Do I know where the 10% of un-inked skin was located? That's a story of Hawaii I may just have to keep to myself.

Did you see the "official" bird running around? Those chickens were everywhere. Caught a peeping cock staring at me while I was changing clothes one afternoon....hmmm, not unlike every afternoon here at home.

LOL Yes, how can you miss them? Wanna sleep in? No chance, they are crowing all night long and the locals hate them. Story is the Hurricane of 1991 I think, released all those roosters and its illegal to kill them. They are EVERYWHERE....

I took a picture of a family of them walking across the KFC parking lot in Lanai...thought it was funny as hell.

The Na Pali coastline (the mountains you speak of) is literally the most beautiful sight I've ever seen...

What I wouldn't give to be swimming with the sea turtles right now...

Yep spent my honeymoon there on Poipu Beach back in 92 and left one week before Hurricane Iniki hit. The most powerful hurricane in Hawai's history washed away the bungalow we were staying in. Close call.
Of course my ex wife was the 2nd most powerful hurricane to hit. Couldn't dodge that one.
