Travelmind, he is giving you some sage advice. In my experience they contact you, probably more than once. I had been warned to be prepared for a particular woman to ask to be taken back. And that I should give it serious thought as to what I would do say when it happened.

I wasn't prepared for the semi monthly drop by of venting / bawling / screaming / quivering.

I went through more civilians than I'd want to admit after an ugly, hurtful breakup, and it didn't help.
