That was a heck of a match yesterday!!

As one who grew up fewer than 100 miles from Windsor, Ontario (Hockey Night in Canada) which is just across the river from Detroit, I can remember back to the days of the "Original Six". From that group, I always liked the Blackhawks, mostly because of their sweaters and the under appreciated Stan Mikita.

Of the expansion teams, I always have enjoyed the Flyers going back to their "Broad Street Bullies" days. The result, a Stanley Cup Final series that will maintain my interest and if all the matches are like yesterdays it might well become a classic.

Bah! Give me the hockey of the 80' and 90's over this current joke of Ice Capades.

Yes I tend to agree with you, growing up watching Bobby Hull and many other great players, the game was much more exciting then. The old Chicago stadium had an atmosphere that was amazing. Heck, I even enjoyed watching Keith Magnuson get his ass kicked all the time..

Neotek, Duncan Keith took a puck to the mouth and lost 8 teeth, came back in the game, and was instrumental in a Blackhawk victory, Ice Capades??? don't think so, as a matter of fact I think Keith lived up to your 3 qoutes on the bottom of your page concerning pain quite well. Being a hockey fan from the 60's understand your opinion, but its still a tough sport today if not THE toughest American pro sport. anyway.....GO HAWKS!!!!

Fair enough, Mopar71. But I'd rather take constant hard hitting action vs. open ended skating and diving any day.

Reverting even farther to the days of former Red Wings Gordie Howe, "Terrible" Ted Lindsay and Sid Abel, known as the original "Production Line". They would have turned "The Great Gretzky" and his Ice Follies moves into the Great Grease Spot. They played the game as intended and even managed to create the term Gordie Howe Hat Trick.....a goal, an assist and a five minute fighting major.

Neo, you might even have enjoyed Boston's "Uke Line", Ukrainians Johnny Bucyk, Vic Stasiuk, and Bronco Horvath (Hungarian), from the late 50s.

Sorry couldn't find any Uke Line photos.

Speaking of injuries, until 1959 when Jacques Plante of the Canadians/Canadiens began wearing a protective face mask, it wasn't uncommon for a teams goalie to be referred to as "zipper face".

Well, I know I'm showing my age here, but I remember listening to the hawks on radio since that dam wirtz wouldn't televise the games. I'm glad to see his son has taken over the reigns, and is very receptive to the fans. Just on a side note I started a Bobby Hull fan club after he left the hawks and went to the Winnipeg Jets ( don't laugh) . I met him in person a few times at the Chicago Cougars games and he was always eager to sign an autograph. Can't believe I lost my autograph book, you would be amazed at the autographs I had. Sorry for getting otth here, but I still think for us older guys, all the games were much better in the past. Hockey, Baseball, Football and Basketball.. I had the privilege to see some great athlete's in person.

CSB, I remember me and my buds driving to Indiana just to watch the Hawks because of old man WORST not televising the games, just wish it was "cool" enough down here to wear my Hawk stuff, Starter jackets just hangin in the closet I guess its just t-shirts and car flags.
