I want to say as others have its very important to get the facts right before wrong words come out of your mouth or typed into a keyboard
Its also important to note that the damage by the accusation stated and the subsequent name dropping and the laughing at and total disrespect can not be fully repaired.
Just imagine if it were you that had to deal with this

The apologies are very nice to see but are not enough to evade a sanction or points.
We do not want future situations like this to be thought that you can make a apology if you are wrong and thats it or think you can take a risk with someones living and think nothing of it.

Please take this as a lesson learned and move on and hopefully never repeat it...

I think we are all now glad and appreciative that the ECCIE staff does not allow public alerts, about outtings, without substantiated proof. It's tough to see the "off with her head" mentality and the pile that can take place. I know that Sophie is receiving heart felt apologies from all who were quick to condemn and deservedly so. I would also imagine that her reputation will be placed back intact by many mostly because she remains the sexy and reputable lady she has established herself to be here and now is even more so deserving of the gents patronage and the rest of the board kissing her a** , at least until she can get over what I can only imagine was very traumatic for her. Unjustly putting a ladies livelihood on the line is just as traumatic as I imagine being outted can be.

Best of Luck Sophie! I think we are all sorry that you were wrongly accused and subjected to quick judgments. As a reputable lady on ECCIE, I am pretty certain you will handle this situation in the classy and professional manner that any reputable lady would. (Even though the rest of the ladies know ya probably just want to throw something at somebody, as any of us would...I kid! I kid! Had to lighten the seriousness a bit)

I didn't see the thread with the mistaken allegation, but you should post a link to this thread at the end of that thread so that someone who only finds that thread will not be mislead (if, for example, they search and find it in six (6) months).

You know, this is an apology thread. I can only speak for myself when I say I really feel bad about it. I really truly do. So the snide comments such as yours really serve no purpose other than to keep the negativity going. I am not sure what YOU are trying to accomplish, but it doesn't look like much more than additional pot-stirring in an already embarrassing and fucked up situation.

If you knew what you were talking about, it wasn't an unbelievable story, so I wouldn't call it a witch hunt. That is neither here nor there though. The fact of the matter is, it wasn't her, I PERSONALLY feel like shit that I ever believed in the people who brought this to me. I feel like shit that I accused Sophie of doing something she didn't do. I feel shitty about the things I said about her.

Not sure what more I can do, I have been given points, been yelled at by mods, apologized repeatedly on more than one thread....

Allegations based on flimsy evidence, people not exercising appropriate skepticism, over-confidence in knowing "what we know," relying on what someone says without asking the basis for their statements -- combined to result in horrible mistakes where someone is unjustly accused, even when everyone involved had good intentions.



Yes, it's sad that something like this could happen. An unfortunate tendency/trait of most people (and I don't exclude myself). At least this wasn't quite as irreversible as in The Ox-Bow Incident. We've seen it many times before. But what's worse than this specific incident is that:

• Those who make such errors are genuinely contrite and apologetic -- but usually forget the lesson after a few months and repeat the error.
• Others, in their retreat from a gullible over-certainty, don't stop at the cautious realization of the limits of their knowledge -- but overshoot into the cynicism at the other end of the spectrum. Instead of thinking "he/she might have misunderstood or be mistaken" or "are there any details missing" or "let's wait until we hear from all of those with first hand knowledge," they assume "I don't trust him/her, he/she is probably lying." Skepticism = good; cynicism = bad. Automatically disbelieving, or a philosophical attitude that nothing is knowable, are as bad for practical living as is automatically believing.
