Why do you inject race into the discussion?

"We" seem to have a problem keeping these "data bases" free from public scrutiny and I frankly don't want crooks, who prowl around when people are on vacation, knowing what spoils are available in my humble abode ... and after we "register" all firearms then a stolen firearm will be quite valuable on the market among crooks.

As an example, it wasn't that long ago that the Texas prison system was "leasing" prisoner labor to homeowner insurance carriers to input property lists into the policy files of homeowners who were "scheduling" particularly valuable property in their insurance policies .... and there began to be a pattern of burglaries that seemed to coincide with the prisoner data input! "Our governments" seem to lack some common sense at times.
You can make a lot of slippery slope arguments that are not true. All my cars have been registered, none have been confiscated. Or that registration has made my cars more vulnerble to being stolen.

I agree with your comments about gov't doing some very stupid things, and would certainly include your example of homeowner insurance in the very stupid category. I will also point out that there may not be a complete cause & effect relationshipp to many gov't stupidities, but there is a definate contribution: (1) many gov't jobs pay less than the going rate, and (2) when gov't budgets get cut there is pressure to find "creative" ways to make up the shortfall. But that is digressing from the thread's topic, especially since I agree with your point here.

I do not claim I have an easy answer, but I still believe guns should be registered, and that firearms training should be manditory. Not all of us who believe these things are for gun removal.
