Looking for some sign of actual FACTS in these posts and not finding any. Looking for some kind of reasoned argument to back up an opinion, and not finding that either. Also, wondering what kind of person a "maroon" is.

i have a good buddy, we don't see each other as much as we used to. used to work together, and me and him and a few others comprised a somewhat ragtag group of regulars that would often retire to the comfortable confines of our favorite pub...the Londoner in Addison.

my buddy was an ultra conservative, and i am an unabashed progressive, that owns guns btw.

so we would meet up at the Londoner, and over the course of a few pints of Guinness would not only call each other a clueless fuck, a stupid motherfucker, various dumbasses, assholes were bandied about, and we would always argue about whose turn it was to buy a round. after i, and he, had been called every name in the book, our intellects and our manhoods had been called into question, we'd settle up on our tabs and meet up back at wotk the next morning at our work cafeteria for a hearty breakfast...planning our next excursion to the Londoner.

and that is what i miss about passionate grounded political discourse. it still exists among rational grounded folks, but it disappeared from tv a long time ago. some can point to guys like lee atwater that have been credited with the start of the slide towards the bitter politics we have today, and news chiefs like roger ailes, and i guess others have existed on both sides, but i miss my Londoner happy hours where we could all agree to disagree. over a few pints of course. and maybe some fish & chips. me and my buds still do/can, but too many wankers hear our lively discussions and have to butt in. but it's still good fun among the right people.

I know what you mean. My best friend in high school and college was a (topic we can't mention)-smoking hippie and I was a West Texas conservative ROTC cadet. Somehow we could talk for hours and hours, agree to disagree, and still go home friends at the end. I wonder where it all went. Those were the Vietnam War days, and despite all the strife and protests then I sometimes think it was very civilized compared to what goes on today.

Sorry about that, I was busy with the 24 year old civilian who was enjoying my swimming pool and the wine and cheese.

Much better than being around folks who need to hang out where you were at instead.

To all of you who are saying "show me, show me" for Beck's idiotic pronouncements, I say pull your heads out of your asses and read what is readily available to you. If you aren't interested enough to look it up, you're not going to be swayed by anything that anyone posts here, so why would anyone bother? Americans need to wake up and do their own homework.

I took the trouble to research Beck for my own benefit and there is lots of information out there that is easy to find. Yes, there is LOTS of left-wing bullshit, but not enough to drown out the xenophobic message that Beck is preaching. Others have said it best–Beck is just an entertainer who is preying on those who wish to be led. Like a new version of Jim Jones or David Koresh in the making. LK's example of the Obama bible controversy is just one example of many bullshit statements from Beck that you'll find if you do your homework. There are lots of ridiculous 'Hitler' analogies too. It would be entertaining for the comedic value if it weren't hate-oriented.
